I want to connect a headphone for my husband but also listen through the speakers.

Wireless headphones hooked up to the tape out rca jack on the back of the unit. This takes care of the problem of the speakers shutting off when you plug headphones into the front headphone jack.

Denon avr 1700 hp/only. how do I turn headphones off only?? I reset but did no work. can I clear the memory by unplug power, fuses ect??

try plugging in headphones and unplugging them. the headphone jacks have a tendency to have a shorted contact in them that cause the unit to think there are headphone plugged in all the time. Only true fix is to replace the headphone jack, but pluggin and unplugging can temporarily clean the fault usually.

Music still comes out of my speakers when I have headphones plugged in??

Some receivers have a speakers on off button. But if the Denon doesn't and inserting a headphones used to switch the speakers off. The don't worry it's nothing serious. All that likely to have happened is that inside the headphone socket some "pins" have bent out of shape and are not contacting. Depending on the type of socket, these can be bent back into place sometimes. But even if the headphone socket needs replacing they are not expensive and if you are any good with a soldering iron you could do the job yourself.

Denon receiver problems

Check sound from headphones. These models have been known to have bad headphone jacks that make the unit think there are headphones plugged in even when there isn't. Sometimes just plugging in headphones and unplugging them will fix it for a while.

Stopped consistently producing sound

Try plugging and unplugging a pair of headphones. The headphone jack in these receivers are flaky and sometimes think there are headphones hooked up even when there isn't. Full repair would require the headphone jack to be replaced. If you don't use headphones at all, you can take the top cover off and unplug the cable going to the headphone jack board and eliminate the problem that was as well.
