I have been running a Vito for several years.
It had a hard life before the previous owner bought it and he needed to spend a lot of money on it to bring it up to standard, almost doubling his purchase price.
For a long time after I became the owner there was always something wrong with it though mostly irritating and inconvenient stuff rather than anything serious (so far) with the exception of the water pump. Dealer price for this would have been horrendous. Almost all the fastenings snapped off and the engine should have been removed to do the job though the pump was cheap enough. The front exhaust section would cost around £900 plus tax and so I spent many hours repairing it.
Taking on an old Vito should not be taken lightly. Lots of the parts are ridiculously priced and the electrical system is complex with little information available about it.
The biggest problem I am facing just now is the rate at which it is rusting away. The design of the body is unnecessarily complex, which is probably why from a driver point of view the body offers superior rigidity and such a car-like drive.
Strini, I know nothing about the reliability of the Vito, google search brought up the following links of problems with turbo, engine and gearbox. You could also search for more info. yourself. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck
