Brightness adjusting without my input

I've had this monitor since March or so, about 8 months. Recently, I've been having a most unusual problem. When I am using my computer, the monitor will adjust the brightness without my input. It brings up the box for adjusting it and it increases brightness at apparently random intervals. Sometimes, it jumps up to 100 as if I were holding the button myself, and sometimes it sits at one number for a while, then moves up, sits at the next number, and so on. This would be much less bothersome if the box didn't come up. I can't close it and it blocks the very center of my screen (in fact, I'm typing blind in segments of this box because my monitor is adjusting its brightness)

It only adjusts brightness and it only goes up--these are affected by the same button. Nothing is leaning against the buttons or touching them from any direction. Help!!

I have already posted on this in another similar thread. But I will briefly suggest that you take off the front surround by removing the stand and undoing the two screws at the bottom rear corners. you then have to prize off the surround. While doing this check how well the small white connector, to the button panel,is connected. If necessary unplug and replug it to make sure that it is well seated.

Refit the front panel and you may find that the problem is fixed.

Sounds like the backlight is failing already. If it still under warranty, take it back and have the manufacturer fix it.

Brightness of my desktop has been increased what to do??

I've recently come to the realization that my computer monitor screen is not properly calibrated. In different web forums where photos are posted, I'm noticing that I can't make out a lot of the pictures people are talking about - they're too dark. I've also noticed this when printing out CD covers - detail in the shadows that I never saw on the screen. Also, every time I show people digital photos, I have to turn up the brightness (in Photoshop) to anywhere between 25 - 50 %! Needless to say, I need to calibrate my monitor. For a test, I downloaded one of those "black level" graphs whrere the squares go from dark to light and you should be able to see every square clearly - I can only see half before they disappear into all blackness.

I have one of those old "turn of the century" big Dell Monitors that came with my original computer back in 2000. It has two "select" buttons (- +) and two "adjust" buttons (- +) with a row of icons (showing which parameter you're adjusting) with lights underneath on the left. I know that the "sun" icon is brightness and the "half moon" icon is contrast, but I don't know what the rest are.

After selecting "brightness," I hit the adjust "+" button a couple of times and I expected to see a bar graph showing my adjustment, but there was nothing, so I left it alone. I don't want to screw up my monitor so I want to make sure that I'm doing this right. It says "recall" under the select and adjust buttons with "arrows" pointing to two buttons. I assume that you press these to go back to your default settings.

So, how do I go about doing this correctly? __________________

We have a 22" LG

Dear amy mcioynt,

Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!

The issue you describe it caused by the video board going bad. All of the controls for video display, clocking, brightness, contrast, and input source is handled by this card.
They are replaceable, if you have the part number. Most of the time they range from $50 - $75

Have a great evening!

Well for Sumsung with a 3% failure rate is unusual, I would try and reset to factory settings if that does not work, They have a pretty good waranty on them seeing they never break down. average is 3yr.
