The 6000K colour temperature is a measure of the whiteness of the light and has no relationship with the amount of heat generated by the lamp.
Driving behind 6000K takes a bit of getting used to after the warm white of filament bulbs as the intense white light tends to make lighter colours in the beam light up more brightly leaving great dark holes in the scenery.
Hid kits are available to convert most existing headlamps though the cheaper kits, I have heard, are short-lived and unreliable.
If a respectable supplier recommends a kit to convert your headlamps you should be fairly confident your headlamp units will not melt.
One final word of advice; the igniters produce a dangerous high voltage and they should be treated with respect and any warnings in the instructions taken heed of.

replace the headlamp bulb. I just had to replace both the headlamp bulbs in an '05 model. Neither low beam was working. You'll have to pull the whole headlamp assembly out, but they tell you exactly how to do it in the owner's manual. Hope this helps.
