Have you tried unplugging the power part of the cord on the back of the printer then plug it back in? I have had a flat hp scanner and other hp scanners I have had in the past unplugging it resets the scanner then allows it to try to scan again. Hope this helps.

I get a communication error after I scan documents with officejet j4680. I am doing this wirelessly. It worked the first two times I did it and then it did not work at all. I can get previews of the...


HP has particluar issues relating to install. Essentially you cannot use plug and play.
Here is what I would do, totally uninstall the printer. Then go to HP.com and download the correct install program for yoru printer and OS. Follow those directions exactly, specifically when to plug in the printer.

If issue remains, contact HP boys directly, via chat and they can straighten you out, usually for free.

I get an error message when I scan. It says Error


ISSUE: The error Waiting for PC is displayed on the control panel when scanning, using the Start Scanbutton on the control panel. The user will also notice a Not Setup on PC error when pressing theScan to … button. Note that scan from the PC works properly without an error. SOLUTION: The probable causes for this issue are listed below:
  • Firewall denying access to PC
  • Device polling not enabled
  • The scan to function is not enabled in the HP Toolbox
  • The destination has not been added to the Scan to button from HP toolbox
  • The HP Toolbox is losing the scan to destination
How to troubleshoot this issue:
  1. PC protection software such as firewall software may prohibit proper communication between HP AiO products and Toolbox and scanning software. Firewalls may need to be reconfigured to allow Toolbox to communicate with the AiO. The Toolbox software is similar to Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer in this way. Temporarily disabling firewall software may be helpful in determining if it needs to be reconfigured for Toolbox to operate properly. Please contact your third party firewall software vendor if assistance is needed to reconfigure the firewall. The following third party support Web sites may be useful:
  2. When Device Polling is turned off, the Alerts and the Scan to e-mail or folder options in the HP Toolbox are disabled, and the START SCAN function on the HP LaserJet AiO product control panel is also turned off. CLICK HERE for instructions on how to turn on Device polling.
  3. To program the device SCAN TO ... button, view the device settings. Open the HP Toolbox and click the Scan to tab. For more information, CLICK HERE to view the document titled HP Color LaserJet 2840 AiO Series Products - How to use "Scan To E-mail" or "Scan to Folder" from the Device
  4. The User loses the folder when choosing to save scanned files under the Scan to Folderoption of the Scan to Tab. The User also may lose the email settings under the Scan to Emailoption of the Scan to Tab. The User restarts the toolbox and it works for some time and the problem repeats again. Perform the following in the order listed to resolve this issue:
    1. Run the Fix Scan Utility and see if it resolves the problem. Click here for the Fix Scan Utility at http://www.hp.com If not, proceed to the next step.
    2. Check the firmware version and make sure that it is up to date. print a configuration page to see what the current firmware version is. My hp 6500 is refusing to scan but I don't know why.


please try to scan from the following file and check if you are able to scan

  1. Go to the location C:\program files\hp\digital imaging\bin folder
  2. Locate and double click on hpqsciapp.exe to activate scanning application.
  3. Click on scan to scan a picture.
if you are able to scan from this file and unable to scan from solution center then get back to me with the exact error message you are getting and operating system.

Do you have HP solution center installed on the computer? You need this software on you PC to scan correctly. You can download it from HP here:

Just pick the exact model you have and correct operating system (Windows XP, Windows 98, Mac OS 10.5) then pick the bundle/full feature driver and install that and your scanner should allow you to scan to you PC. You may find it less of a hassle to scan from the PC by using HP software and selecting scan.

HOW TO INSTALL hp scanner to VISTA


I have a Windows Vista PC. I am trying to enable the scan option on my HP Laserjet 3380 to work on the PC and vice-versa. I do not have the cd and have already downloaded the drivers from HP.com.

It is still does not work.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this issue?

HP3050 scan to pdf can't be opened


agalier is not alone. I have exactly the same issue with my HP LaserJet 3050 and pdf files. Once file is opened on PC than did the scanning and saved with a different name, voila the new file can be accessed without problem by another PC on the network. Bizzare!
