Try resetting the toner:

Open door
Take cartridge out
In quick succession: push the Go button, put the cartridge in, push the Go button, close the door and push the Go button.

May need several tries.

Hope this helps.

Bought a Brothers HL2170W. Came with a starter cartridge. Also bought a 2140 (same starter cartridge but not wireless). Used the 2170W till the toner light was on steady. Then tried to use the other...

Yeah, right. This may not apply, but if you look at the cartridge from the top, on the right side there's a sensor that knows how much toner is in the cartridge. It's a little optical hole like about 1/4-3/8 inch. If you put a piece of black tape over the hole, the printer thinks the cartridge is new :-)

Paper tray doesn't raise on my brothers hl5250dn printer. Says papertray empty

I have had the same exact problem; make absolutely sure that the exit chute is seating properly. With the exit chute open (as if to clear a paper jam) actuate the white spring loaded clips that hold the exit chute, mine were not traveling to their full extension and by moving them a few times this resolved and the exit chute was held more firmly and the rollers spin the right direction.

I replaced the toner for the printer and the toner

No, remanufactured cartridges are just as good, and better for the environment if you get them from a reputable dealer. I buy all my toner cartridges from and am very happy with them after trying a lot of other knock off non quality refurbished toner cartridges. You just have to find the right vendor.

With brothers, you have to manually tell the printer that you changed it. It tells you how in your owners manual. If you can't find it let me know and I can walk you through it to the best of my ability.

Hope this helps!

Toner light always on, even after replacing toner cartridge

With Brothers printers, you have to sometimes manually tell it that you changed the drum or the toner. You can check how in your owners manual, if you can't find it there let me know and I can walk you through it

The drum indicator light is on. Is this a repair

the drum is the tray that holds the toner, it comes out when you remove the toner. you can buy this part at any store that sells the toners. it is normally more expensive than the toner but will last you about 4 of them

Printer light says paper jam but cannot find it. Almost have the whole printer torn apart and cannot figure it out. I copy the light comes on and paper only feeds in about 1/4 way. Then a real paper jam....

Did you remove the strip from the toner cartridge before you installed it? There should have been a tab to pull out a strip that looks like a long piece of tape. This prevents the toner from spilling out during shipping. It must be removed prior to use.

Toner light doesnt go away in our printer and the printer doesnt print. We changed the cartridge please help us

The HL-2070N gets jammed in a toner end-of-life error condition. Perform the following to clear (I have 120 in the field so I know it works!):

With paper loaded, new toner in,

  1. Open front door
  2. Turn off printer
  3. While holding down the GO button, turn printer back on
  4. When all four LEDs light up release GO button. All LEDs will turn off
  5. Press the GO button 2 times. The 3 LEDs (toner, drum, paper) will light up solid
  6. Press the GO button 5 times
  7. Paper light will be blinking
  8. At this point the toner end-of-life condition has been reset. Close front door.
BTW, I got this from Brother Support. Also, just a reminder, timing is important here so don't pause between button presses.
