Hhi, There has not been a recall but, they have changed the design of the heater. It is not a double heater. The new heater part # WR51X10101 . If you find the heater is bad, this is what you need to get. Since I have been replacing these new heaters, I have not had to go back and change another one. I hope GE got this figured out now.

Please let me know if this helps or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Why is my side by side freezer not freezing

Most likely your refrigerators defrost heater is burned out. The PSS26MRSS has no defrost timer and defrost is done when the motherboard tells it to. I have not seen may problems with the mother board when it comes to defrost. Check the rear wall of freezer for frost and if yes unplug and remove contents and rear panel in freezer. Get a hair dryer to speed things up and once the ice is melted look for the defrost heater at base of the evaporator coil. When they burn out they are easy to spot because the outer tube is glass covering the defrost element inside. If burned out replace the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. I will instruct you, Thanks, Sea Breeze

It sounds like a bad defrost timer. See if you can find another unit and see if it defrosts the same as yours or contact the manufacturer to find out.

Sounds like the automatic defrost system is not working. The usual problem is the defrost heater, the defrost thermostat, or the defrost timer. If any of these parts are bad, it will not defrost.

Possible defrost problem. If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air.Since you've already replaced the motherboard Checkdefrost heater, defrost thermostat

Ice building up in freezer

Due to the frosting up, The glass defrost heater broke. Any good tech knows this happens. The defrost heater must be replaced. If this is a GE side by side. The new replacement heater has dual elements. The standard heater that was put in them, was not large enough to defrost the coils fully. Replace heater and you should be fixed up. I would also replace the thermostat while you are in the freezer section they are only like 15 bucks and this way you will have a new defrost circuit.

Icemaker solid:

This could be a problem with the icemaker not dumping the ice or with the water valve in back not shuting off completely.

Water in the floor:

This may be related to the icemaker but first check the drain under the evaporator coils.

GE sxs defrost problem

How long does it take for the frost to build up, improper placement of the bi-metal will cause a defrost issue by not letting the heater stay on long enough.

Let me know how you make out.
