Corrupted AVG Free Scan Log

AVG Free Scan Log is corrupted. When system scan runs, about half way through the scan, entire system shuts down. Details for scan shows, ''The scan log is corrupted (scan has not finished properly).'' I have uninstalled AVG Free, then reinstalled, but problem persists. I have also tried registering with AVG so I can post to the forum, but it does not recognize my login info.

I have had the same problem. my computer froze and i could not do anything just after downloading AVG (from their official site). i deleted the file (with difficulty) and now my computer runs, but keepsturning itself off now and again with a message saying windows had to close in order to protect itself. i am now going to have to pay for anti-virus software in order to fix this problem AVG has given me.

:(

(i know its not a solution, i just wanted other people to know so they dont download it too.)

I was listening to my music that i downloaded and it started to skip like a scrached up cd then the computer shut down and started back up but it wants me to run my system back up like i did a system...

If you have system restore disk you start with the one that is numbered disk 1 put it in your cd rom and restart machine it will do the rest and will ask for disk 2 etc.. If your backup cd's do not contain the operating system you may have to buy a new operating system and install, as for the listening to music part there may have been a virus or corrupted data on the song you downloaded after restore takes place you may want to install virus protection and scan for virus' if you do not have a virus scanner there are several free the most popular being avgfree at this website http://free.avg.com/us-en/download?prd=afg

Cannot scan the computer due to unfinished scanning earlier. the scan log is corrupted (scan has not finished properly). what to do?

You have not specified the AV program you are using and if you have its install disks. Anyway. If you have the AV disks then go to Control Panel->Add Remove Programs and after selecting this anti virus program uninstall it. Reboot the PC. and reinstall the AV program.
If you do not have the AV disks then uninstall it the way explained above. Then connect to the net and download free version of AVG anti virus from www.download.com and install it.

Anti Virus

Here is what I would do.

First I would start off by downloading the free trial of ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus. Afterward I would scan my system (In-Depth Scan) with the free trial of NOD32 (It doesn't use a lot of system resources). Next I would download the free version of Ad-Aware 2008. After the anti-virus scan finished I would scan my system with Ad-Aware (Full Scan). Next I would download and install Spybot Search & Destroy. After Ad-Aware finishes scanning I would start a scan with Spybot. Next I would download and install AVG Anti-Rootkit Free. After Spybot finishes scanning I would run an in-depth search on all hard-drives with the use of AVG Anti-Rootkit Free.

If that doesn't whack it, fighting this thing might not be worth it. Reinstall the windows operating system after you back up any files which you absolutely HAVE to keep.

I HAVE A STRONG VIRUS IN MY COMPUTER

Your antivirus may be corrupted by the virus, or it has not this virus on the latest update

First install an antivirus, update it to latest version , and try doing a full scan: AVG Free - Download AVG

If the antivirus is not enough use an antimalaware that removes more viruses use this one: Spybot - Search & Destroy - Free software download , install, update, and perform a full system scan.

If that is still not enough, the best thing to do is doing a backup of your files, and reinstalling Windows.

I think my norton is downloaded wrong. I have a virus and cannot run norton

Hi mollducks, first things first. If you are using any version of XP turn on windows firewall. Click the start button & open control panel. Open windows firewall & click it to on if it is not on.
Try downloading AVG antivirus software for free at this link:
http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe Than run it. Full system scan.
After you run AVG on you're system use Norton’s remove utility to uninstall any left over files from Norton.
AVG should have caught any virus.
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
If you bought Norton antivirus software for download, go to this Norton site & click support:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/index.jsp
If it was the free download, try again to download it.
Norton should do a quick scan during installation.
You might want to keep AVG. Norton should still install with AVG already installed. You can remove AVG at any time.
Lastly, once you feel there are no virus's in you're system shut down the PC. Unplug the power cord from the PC. Open the case & gently remove you're memory DIMM's. Wait 1 minute & re-install them. Make sure they are correctly connected. Double check all data & power cables are securly connected & close the PC & plug the power cord back in. (By doing this you remove any virus that may be hiding with in you're memory).

Good luck mollducks!
Feel free to ask if there is still an issue with norton after running the above sugestions.

Problem with connectivity. I can sign on, but after that everything freezes. This only happens with the screen names chiameliezer and dfs. Please advise.

This is a shot in the dark really, since it could be a number of things including a corrupted hard drive, but It most likely is just some nasty virus or spyware if it is limited to the certain accounts, so log in as an admin user that works, and run your favorite spyware tool and antivirus scans and see if that helps. AdAware is a good one and has a free version that's free to use at home. You may try Spybot also and a Trend antivirus online scan is also good - and free. AVG has a free antivirus if you need one. If that is not it, you may have to delete those user accounts or do a repair on your Windows install by using the CD.
