SOURCE: Right margin won't release
Try touching the margin release key then the space bar to pass the margin then reset it in a new location with the right margin set key

Sounds like you don't know how to set l. margin or you have some debris in the typewriter. Turn it off and see if the carrier will move back and forth by hand, if so turn it on 7 return to l. margin press mar rel key, backspace to where you want the margin and press l. margin key.
hope this helps

Try a little light oil on the printer shaft. WD40 works well.

Hi:
First find the margin release key and press it once. Then use the spacebar to move the carrier forward and reset the right margin. Or again use the margin release key by pressing it once and then press and hold the backspace key to move through where the left margin was and reset it at the point where you want it.

Sounds like the return lever arm is not putting enough pressure on the return clutch, or the clutch is slipping. The exp key uses the same clutch but the pressure comes from your finger. Theres no way you can fix this yourself. Get an IBM mechanic.
