Question about Computers & Internet

My laptop will connect very slowly, or not at all , but when I move it closer to the router it works fine. My old laptop never had any problems (from the same place). At the bottom of the screen it says a network cable is unplugged

I connected wired internet and had error saying i need gateway ping

I know this is an old thread, I just picked up a Samsung BD5100 for
$15 off of ebay. The only thing I will be doing is connecting up to
netflix. I have it cabled directly to a netgear router. First tried it
with a 25 foot ethernet cable, it failed the gateway ping test. Tried
messing with the a few router settings without success. I put a 2
meter ethernet on, bang, works like a dream, Power cycled the
router and the player several times, just to make sure this wasn't
a fluke. Apparently the network timing is right on the edge. I know
my 25 footer works, it runs to my laptop just fine. The player does
have the latest firmware release. So my solution is to move my
entertainment center a bit closer to my router, ohh boy!

My acer aspire loses its signal randomly then comes back. Other laptops in the house are fine for connection. Any advice in simple terms appreciated as I don't know how to remove acer software for

Have had similar problems with two Gateways that are actually Acer--both two feet away on either side of each other: one or the other will lose connection--so not the units---if move the one not connecting closer (it is 50 feet with 3 walls between it and router) it will then pick up the wireless and work fine--I answer about 300 questions here each week so end up to avoid this in the mud/laundry room where I can depend on the signal and also have a smoke if I want.

May want to as a test move it closer to the router and see if same issue or not.

Two toshiba laptops, one less than a year old running win7...the other 3 yrs old runnign xp. both worked fine connecting wireless to my router sat. sun the win7 machine said the dns server was not...

Did you press a button (or move a slider-switch) on the WIN7 laptop, to "disable" the wireless adapter?

Can you login to the web-server "inside" the wireless router, and look at the "log-files" that the router keeps of "recent" events (such as connection-attempts from wireless devices), to see if there is any useful information in those logs?

Does the WIN7 laptop connect to _any_ wireless network (Starbucks, university, shopping mall), or does it fail ONLY when connecting to your wireless router?

Have you tried a "factory-reset" on your router, just in case that it might be the problem?

Loses connection w. remote computer I have a laptop one room away. The laptop accesses the internet and printers from this location. Most of the time it works. However, it will suddently lose the conection...

Check if this router is stronng enough interms of it signals. Check on the laptop the signal strength of the conenction.

If the signal strength is poor you can either move closer to the wireless router or vice versa or can get an access poitn to boost the signal.

Please rate if helpful.

Thanks

I have an acer 5520 and the internet connection keeps droping and conectinh back and forth. any solutions?

If you are connecting wireless, move closer to the router, or move router closer to you.

If you have phone, cable, satellite, there is nothing you can do its them.

If you have cable, I would have them check it outside for bad wire, could be a bad cable , also check inside for a lose connection at a splitter or junction. Same as phone line.

Can't connect a laptop wireless to WRT150N

What you can do is remove the wireless connection profile that is saved and create a new one. Go to wireless connection properties and create a new wireless profile. If that doesn't work, what you can try is change the wireless channel of your router to Standard Mode using channel 11 the power cycle the router.

No connectivity to 2nd desktop or laptop - although worked before

Hello....sudden loss of wireless on two computers, in the same home, may indicate that a powerful source of wireless interference has just arrived (since your wireless router light is still on).

1) Does the signal improve if you move the router, or move the laptop closer to the router?
2) Have you had any success with changing the channel on your router? (Login to router > select Wireless Settings > Channel)

If you have not moved furniture yourself, or installed a device which could interfere with the signal (eg a DECT phone), it's possible a neighbour's new router may be the culprit.

Please come back to Fixya if this does not help.

My wii can't find my router

I believe your router has two antennas. Try moving one horizontal and the other vertical. If that doesn't work move the equipment closer to each other to see if it is a distance problem. OR if you have a laptop, see if the laptop connects to the router from the Wii location. If it has the same problem, the router may not be transmitting a strong enough signal.

Speeding up internet

Here are a few suggestions on how to speed connection:

- Move router or pc location if possible. Closer = better connection usually

- Try changing the channel your router is broadcasting on. Sometimes there are slower channels and faster channels in heavy traffic area

- If you have any toolbars in your browser (i.e., yahoo or google), remove them. Those toolbars use up resources that can slow you down.

- Delete cookies and internet files

If these don't work, post a comment on here with your operating systems on laptop and desktop and router type.

Signal Problems

try to bring another laptop to the location where you are having problem and see if the other laptop will have the same problem. if thats the case the problem is with the router. You can try upgrading the router's firmware or change the wireless channel
