SOURCE: replace pullcord on troy built mower

Replacing the rope is not difficult but tricky. I believe that your model has a fuel tank on top of starter cover, empty fuel and remove tank to expose starter cover. Remove the starter cover and place it on your workbench with the plastic rewind spool visible and remove the old rope noting how it was tied. The rope is sold in various sizes from # 3 to # 6.5. Most mowers use a #4.5, with length of about 6 to 7 feet. You may not need this much but more is better. Now practice inserting the rope thru the hole where it comes out of the cover into the hole where it ties on the spool. Once you can do this you are ready to wind. The spool /spring winds when you pull the rope, that why it recoils when you let go of the rope. With that in mind, turn (wind) the spool in the same direction that it turns when you pull the rope. It should be getting tighter as you turn. Keep winding in the direction that it turns when you pull the rope untill it will not go anymore. It should be very tight. Now unwind one complete turn and align the hole of the spool to the hole in the housing and hold it there while you insert the rope from outside hole into the spool and tie knot. After the knot is tied slowly let rope rewind into the spool untill it stops on its own. You are done. You should have plenty of extra rope left to extend out to the handlebar. Enjoy

SOURCE: troy bilt mower won't stay running to cut lawn

You may want to check the gas cap to see if it clogged with dirt. If the gas cap is clear, you more than likely have a carburetor problem. If you need tips on carb. cleaning, feel free to ask.

SOURCE: Troy Built 6.75 Self Propelled to Slow

You have to take off a part behind the gears and move it to a slot farther away. Mine was the same way. It's in the manual on how to adjust the speed to go faster.

SOURCE: white smoke and oil spewing out of troy built

Check your oil level. If it is way over full, smell it to see if it smells like gasoline. If it does, you have a carburetor leaking gas into the engine crankcase. If you recently had the mower over on its side for blade changing or inspection, you have gotten oil up on top of the piston and it should burn off in a few minutes of running. Check your air filter to see if it is soaked with oil, replace it if it is.

SOURCE: my troy built 210 6.75 hp mower self propelled mow...

remove the front black plastic plate that is stamped self propelled and replace the wheel drive belt that attaches the engine pulley (above blade) to the transmission pulley (found under the cover). When you buy the belts, pick up two or three as I seem to go through a couple per season. Hopes this helps

Have a 171/2 hp briggs and Stratton engine on a troy built ridding mower, engine has a bad surge. rebuilt carb. still has a surge

This may sound screwy and you all think I'm probably a bit crazy but I have a Troy-Bilt 5550 generator model 01919 and it runs but surges. I also have a Troy-Bilt riding lawn mower which was doing the same thing, when I investigated it, it turned out that my gas tank on my lawn mower had those little "pincher bugs" that I got in my gas tank and was clogging the fuel outlet inside the tank I'm going to check my generator as soon as it cools down this evening as right now it's over 90° outside here in East Tennessee, and see if this is the same issue. Just thought I'd throw that out there it might be crazy talk but can't hurt to check I guess?

Was cutting grass on my troybilt pony got real loud and shut off now wont crank just spins over replaced sparkplug and it keeps foulin out

Sounds like the plug has stripped the threads, any good machine shop will fit a heli coil ( thread insert ) in the head to restore the thread.

Pull mower rope on troy built self propelled mower and it jerks it back out of your hand, hard,,and will not start

Hi,
This sounds like the engine is out of time.
Usually this happens when the blades hit something hard and shears a small aluminum"key" between the crank shaft and the flywheel.
This is reparable. The little key is less than a buck. A person needs some skills to remove the flywheel to replace the "key".

Troy bilt push mower 6.75hp/21''cut/mulches/bags/side discharge- Can anyone please tell me why this mower does not cut grass well? I have to make several passes to get a even cut and the grass is not that...

I know this is a dumb question, but is the blade on upside down? This is common mistake to make, and is the blade properly balanced and sharp. I would definitely make sure of these items first. From the way you describe it, I can't think of anything else.
