I use only Google Chrome for Gmail. They are both Google applications and are compatible.

To disable all of Firefoxs add-ons, you have to open the browser in its Safe Mode by clicking Start > All Programs > Mozilla Firefox > Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)
If that won't work, then you will just gonna have to uninstall Firefox then download and install a fresh Firefox from Mozilla.

Yes you can use Google Chrome as an alternate or you can also install fire fox too

Fire fox should have nothing to do with it. You could uninstall fire fox, install your flash player and then reinstall firefox. A couple of reasons for this problem could be, one, the flash player is from a dodgy site and fire fox is at odds with it, or the second is you have not got the latest version of fire fox. The only thing that should be at odds with the flash player, if there was something wrong is your operating system, not your web browser.

Google use AJAX technology in gmail, and ajax needs to a good speed connection, maybe your speed is low. Of course, I suggest you test other browsers like Safari, fire fox, maybe they will help!
