It seems to be an issue with the security software on your computer. Disable antivirus and firewalls on the computer and then retry the installation.
To isolate the issue better, please try to install the adapter on another computer.

Does the disk-drive "activity" light start to flash, or stay on for a few minutes? If so, Windows is reading many configuration-files from your disk-drive, trying to find the correct one for your USB device. Give it a few minutes. Or, try the USB device in some other computer, to compare the elapsed-time between "new hardware detected" and "device is ready to use".
