Hi Brown3377; when you install the HP Software, what selection did you choose? is it the recommended or custom settings? maybe you missed the scanner driver for your printer that is why it says you need to install it first. you can insert your HP cd and check it out, click custom install and double check to see if you have the scan driver selected, if not, select it then install... then try to remove the printer usb cable, reboot your printer and computer.
If you have already downloaded your software for the HP 2355XI or put the software from CD to your computer then your computer should recognize the new software. If you need the software go to HP and enter model and search software then download to desktop and follow directions. If by chance the default printer is set as Microsoft you need to click start then control panel and choose printers and take Microsolft off default and add HP 2355XI by right click and set as default printer. please try plugging the printer if it detected by PC. if it is detected maybe you need to update the driver of your pc. Please install the updated driver or reinstall the drivers of your system and then reinstall the printer software after rebooting. Disable the antivirus and other annoying program.
