How do I get my keyboard to work on my laptop after upgrading from windows 7 to windows 10?

After upgrading from 7 to 10, I lost both my touchpad and my keyboard on my laptop. I was able to restore the touchpad, but not the keyboard. I've tried uninstalling then reinstalling the driver.

Change another version of driver to install. If you hardly can find the compatible driver, it is suggested you use a third party tool like OSToto Driver Talent.

Rather than reinstalling try a Google search for (keyboard make/model) windows 10 driver. Without knowing which keyboard that's the best solution available.

Thank you. That link gave me a few different options which I'm in the process of trying. Is there a way to make sure that the keyboard itself is working properly so I can eliminate that as a problem?

Dell touch pad not working

The touchpad on a Dell laptop is usually located under the keyboard. Moving the finger on the pad moves the pointer on the screen. The buttons near the pad act as a right and left click. Windows includes a method to troubleshoot the touchpad. In addition, if the touchpad is still giving you issues, Dell recommends draining the "flea" power the standby power from the computer to restart it. Both methods are simple and only take a few minutes.

Open the control panel from the Start menu. Click on "Mouse." This will open a window with several tabs. On the first tab, click the touchpad to open a new window to change the settings for your touchpad. You can customize the settings to how you want your touchpad to work. If this does not solve your issue, proceed to the next step. Click the Hardware tab on the screen that pops up. Select the Dell Touchpad and click "Troubleshoot." A new window will open with the Windows Help and Support Center to bring you through methods for troubleshooting the touchpad. Follow the methods described until your touchpad is working properly. Drain flea power Shut down the laptop and disconnect all external devices, such as a thumb drive, headphones and the AC adapter power cable from the system. Take the battery out of the laptop. Hold down the power button for at least 5 seconds without releasing it. Return the battery back to the laptop. Power the system on. If your touchpad still is not working properly, call Dell for customer support.

Turn your Inspiron 1525 off and remove any power cables that are connected to the device. Close the computer, turn it over and slide the battery lock button down to release the rectangular battery from its compartment on the underside of the computer. Turn your laptop right-side up and open the computer so the monitor is facing you. Insert the tip of your flat-head screwdriver in the seam between the plastic keyboard guard and the side of the computer. The keyboard guard is located just above the keyboard. Pry up on the guard until it pops out of place. Be sure to do this gently, as you do not want to damage the guard. Remove the guard from the computer and set it aside. The two keyboard screws will now be visible underneath where the guard used to sit. Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the two keyboard screws and use the tips of your fingers to lift the keyboard up from the top. Place the keyboard facedown over the touchpad and locate the thick connector ribbon that runs from the motherboard inside the computer to the back of the keyboard. Use your fingers to gently unplug the ribbon from the back of the keyboard and set it aside. Insert the tip of your screwdriver in the seam at the bottom of where the keyboard used to rest and gently pry it up. This will release the top plastic frame from the Inspiron, revealing all of the broken touchpad. Use your fingers to disconnect the thick ribbon from the side of the damaged touchpad and slide the touchpad out of the Inspiron. Slide the new Touchpad (available from your Dell retailer or online) in its place, fit the top frame in place and reassemble the computer in the reverse order you took it apart in.

Inspiron 1520 Can't turnoff touchpad. Unable to connect to Synaptics pointing driver. Find my cursor in random spots all over. Help!! Thanks

1. Go to the "Control Panel" and double click on the "Mouse" item.
2. Go through the tabs in the "Mouse Properties" window & find the tab where you can set up your touchpad. This differs from laptop to another since it is based on the touchpad's drivers.
3. On that tab, check & make sure that your touchpad is disabled.
4. Click "Apply" to apply the changes, then close the "Mouse Properties" window.

If you cannot find a tab to set up your touchpad, then your touchpad drivers might not be installed. In this case, you will need to install them first.

If the above does not work, then you might consider carefully opening your laptop and disconnecting the touchpad. Most laptops will run fine without it. However, beware that since all laptops are very different it might even then not be easy or possible to disconnect just the touchpad; it's possible that it's an integral part of the keyboard assembly, which means that you will be practically disconnecting both the touchpad & the keyboard.

If this either did not work, then you might consider replacing your touchpad (and/or) keyboard.

Toshiba satellite touchpad & keyboard stopped working

As I understand your keyboard is now working and your usb mouse. But the touchpad does not work.

Have you or someone opened up your laptop recently? If so it is possible the touchpad was not connected properly.

Can you please post the exact name of your laptop. I'll see what else I can figure out for you.
