Question about Ovens

The main oven door does not shut completely. I can hold it shut but when I let go, the door opens slightly. Is this likely to be the door hinges and is it a common problem ?

First, you will need a heavy blanket to place the door on once you have removed it from the oven. Open the door slightly, until it stays open by itself, about 15 degrees. Lift the oven door off of the hinges and place on the heavy blanket. (The hinges may snap shut when you pull the door up and off, but this is actually normal. It takes a bit of finesse to get the door back on the hinges if they will not stay out.)

Remove the 4 screws across the bottom of the door. Next, stand the door up with the bottom on the blanket and the front facing you.(Hold the door by gripping firmly around the middle edges to maneuver door)

Now, while holding the handle, remove the 2 screws that hold the handle on, unscrewing them just enough until the handle is free. (You do not want the spacers dropping off the screws) Hold the door together with one hand while placing the handle out of your way.

Once again, grab the door firmly by the middle outer edges and lie the door down, the inside facing down. You should be able to lift up the outer panel and glass and clean the inside of the outer glass.

Reverse the above procedure to reassembly the door. You can also take the door apart further if you have stains inside the other glasses. Here is a link to a schematic for your oven door.

Door to oven does not close completely - how do I access the door hinge to check or replace it?

Open oven door. Flip metal holder down at hinge to lock hinge. Lift door with hinge attached up slightly and off oven. Reverse to re-install door, making sure notch at bottom of hinge is hooked in frame of oven properly.

You need to replace the oven door hinges as the springs are probably weak.

The bottom oven door does not completely shutThere is a gap from which heat escapes. The door shuts but then drops open a very little way when pressure is relinquished

When the door is open, you will see some small cross head screws near where the hinges go into the door. These should be tight. If they are, then it could be the hinge failing. Try espares for a new set of hinges, but be warned you will have to take the entire oven out of its housing and both side panels off to get the the hinges.

Our oven door doesn't close well. When we push it shut it pulls back open a bit. What should we do?

If you removed the door for cleaning, it may not be back on the hinges all the way. If you have not taken the door off, the hinges may be bent. I have seen oven doors where children have hung on them, or someone has placed something very heavy on the door while it is open. this bends the hinges down too far, and will cause the door to remain ajar slightly. Hopefully the hinges are just not seated into the door all the way, and you can just reinstall the door.

My oven door doesn't close completely. Is there a way to adjust the door?

Hi There
I found this for to read so you can fix your door.I hope this will help you.Let me know how it goes.
The oven door won't close If your oven door has gotten bent or warped (maybe you rested something heavy on it…), you need to remove the door, disassemble it, and straighten it. You can lift most oven doors off of their hinges by opening the door several inches to its first "stop," and lifting the entire door straight up. If the hinges have become worn, damaged, or bent, you probably need to replace them. We recommend replacing both hinges at the same time, to prevent uneven wear of the undamaged hinge.
Thank you for writing to fix ya.
Best Regards Richard

Can't get the oven door back on. it was sitting

As you said they are spring loaded so be careful. You will need to pull on the hinge, which takes some muscle and you should see a small hole to put a pin or small screwdriver in to hold the hinge out. When this is in place on both the hinges you can put the door back on. This is the most common hinge style on Wpl or there may be tabs on the tops of the hinges to hold the hinge out. If the door still does not close all the way after getting the hinges all the way on you will need to take the door apart and replace the hinge/spring assy. Thanks for rating me after you read this.

Doors don't shut all the way and light stays on

It sounds like your door hinges are worn, usually on older ovens due to weight of door. Most oven doors can be removed by simply raising the tabs/ fitting small screwdriver on both hinges(refer to user manual) etc. Once door is removed you can place a medium size screwdriver or similar in the hinge slot, pushing the hinge plate on the bottom in an outward direction, thereby bending this plate(very slightly) forward. This will make the door close fully, activating the door switch, and turning off the oven light. This is only a short term solution, as this hot air escaping can lead to further problems. Hinge pair will need replacing. Door hinges are spring loaded ALWAYS KEEP FINGERS AND HANDS CLEAR OF LOADED HINGES.

Replaced hinge on smeg double oven but now oven doesn't heat

I have the SMEG F170-5 and had this problem after cleaning and replacing the door. It wouldn't heat unless I banged it shut. This action made the internal switch trigger, so I had to remove the oven (4 screws, slide out) and remove the right side panel (4 screws). The switch is actuated by the right hinge strut and it must have become bent slightly. I bent it a bit towards the door so that it would just a little bit more likely to make the switch trigger with the door closed and it now works fine.

Thermador oven (c301u) door hinges weak, how to install new hinge

This is a relatively easy fix however you will need to remove the door and it is heavy!

Start by opening the door completely and engage the small "locks" that are at the base of the hinge. This will ensure that the spring loaded hinges do not "spring open" when you remove the door. You then will need to remove the hinges from the door via a series of phillips head screws that hold the hinge assembly in place. The new hinges must be "preloaded" into the Open position using a vise or some means of holding the hinge in place while you use a small section of pipe to provide leverage needed to open the hinge so that the Locks can be engaged.

Once the new hinges are "pre-loaded" and the locks are engaged, you can reverse the procedure to re-install the hinges into the door and re-install the door.

Good luck!!

The hinges are commercially avaialble from Applianceparts.com
