I am quite suspicious that the problem is a worn out, or dried and hardened, drive belt.
New belt are available in many places, and on-line if you wish to buy there, I buy both locally and on-line.
As far a s changing it, although it is easy, you still must take the machine apart partly to do so.
I recall you should be able to look at an old instruction and transfer that information to a newer one.
They have not really changed much.
