Hi, I just bought a used Shure Beta 87A microphone in mint condition. It worked the first time, but stopped working the second time. I am using a brand new pyre XLR cable which worked with all my other mikes but not my Shure 87A. Any suggestions from you would be appreciated. Thanks.

I scored an old beta 58 but the 3 pin connector was missing. i bought another one but i don't know which wires to connect where. plus there are only two wires, is that right? I'm a bit of a noob but I like to try things myself :)

That is quite odd. The ULX series should get about 8 hours of battery life. It is possible that you got a bad batch of batteries. I have seen whole cases that are bad. Trying getting another brand of battery from a different store to see if you still get the same problem. If you still have the same problem, return it to Shure for repair.

Unfortunately, there are many types of counterfeits out there. So, differences that you see posted online might not apply to all counterfeits. That is, various factories in China produce the counterfeits differently. The best thing to do is to completely avoid unreliable sources, such as eBay and Craigslist. Be extremely suspicious of any products on the internet.
SOURCE: Hi, I bought the Shure Beta
That will not work. The Beta 87H/C already has a preamp built into it. That preamp requires phantom power. The MX1BP is another preamp, so you would not need it, due to the preamp that is built in.
If you do not have phantom power available, then purchase an external phantom power supply.
