OK. I downloaded some naruto episodes from limewire and i tried to burn it to a dvd so I can watch it on a dvd player. I inserted a blank disc and the autoplay came up and ask what I want to use to burn the files. I tried all of the selections that were offered and none of them worked. It shows the dvd has been sucessfully burnt but it does not play in the CPU or a dvd player. So I dont know whats the problem. I used a JVC dvd-r

Ok I guess I have a burner problem but this is a brand new computer. The extension files are mpg and they play perfectly on the computer. I dont know if I have to update the driver or whatever. I had an orbicam problem where i used to take pics then it stop working. I installed a orbicam driver and now it works again. So I dont know if I should install a new driver or what.

Ok the dvd player works fine. I just used a dvd what I bought and it autoplayed. I also tried to use the dvd what I burned, it read the disc and autoplay came up. I selected acer arcade to play it but it didnt play. The same problem from the start. So if it is a software I need what do you recommend? Also, I dont understand what you mean by burn the mpg to a CD because thats what I thought I was doing all this time so you can elaborate on that.

Ok the disc that I burned played in windows media player. So I guess I need an additional software so I can use it in a dvd player. What do you think?

What are you burning? To burn a playable DVD requires special software that transcodes the video and audio and puts it into a specific directory structure that's required by DVD players. There are DVD players that will play certain types of files automatically. Tells us more about what you're trying to burn and how you're doing it.

What kind of files did you download? What is the extension, avi, wmv, mpg, mpeg or something else? Do they play properly on the computer before you burn them?

It's not surprising that they won't play on the DVD player for the reason I suggested in my last post.

If the file plays fine on your computer as you downloaded it, but not from the DVD after you burned it, then you may have a burner problem.

Another question about when you say the DVD won't play on the CPU; when you insert the DVD does it autostart or does it just sit there? If it does not autostart, have you tried opening using Explorer to open the drive and double click on the mpg file?

Also, if the above does not help, you could try burning the mpg file to a CD to see if it plays in the computer that way.

In any case, unless you have a special DVD player and burn a specific type of file, you cannot play this in a settop DVD player unless you use software that makes it a playable DVD.

Let me know what you find...

I am not familiar with Acer Arcade. Is that what you were using to play the file directly from the computer?

When I suggested burning it to a CD, I mean burning the mpg file on a CD instead of a DVD. I understood you were burning the mpg file on a blank DVD. It was just an idea to help understand what is going on.

Please try putting the disk you burned back in your computer and when the Autoplay menu comes up pick Windows Media Player this time.

OK, this is good news. There is nothing wrong with your DVD burner or computer.

There are a variety of DVD burning packages out there. If you're looking for something really easy to use I would recommend ConvertXtoDVD. Here's a link:

I've used this as well as quite a few others. This one seems to work pretty reliably and it's pretty straight forward to use. If this does not look like something you want to use I would just use google and look up "dvd burning software" to see if you can find something you like better.

Just so you know, the process of turning an arbitrary video file into a playable DVD can take a long time. There are lots of factors, but don't be surprised if it takes 2 or 3 hours to convert a movie that's about 1.5 hours long.

    Best of luck.

The problem you are having is the DVD player. Not all DVD players will play a burned DVD. Some set top DVD players are know for being very picky about what type of DVD's they will play, and Phillips is very bad about this.

If you have the owners manual for the DVD player, look inside and see what type of disc's are playable. if it should play them DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R. DVD+RW should all be listed.

Right now about 80% of DVD players do not play burned DVD's

In time they all will play them, but for some unknownn reason, some are still made without this ability.

Also, not all DVD-R's are created equal.

The best quality of DVD's to buy for burning are Taiyo Yuden. But Sony, memorex, and Maxell are also pretty good.

One way to be certain about the quality of the burned DVD's is to take one to a friends house or anybody you know who has a set top DVD player and see if it plays in their DVD player.

That will at least tell you if the DVD's you are burning are at fault or not. But my guess is that you r Phillips is the culprit here.

I hope this was helpful to you, if so a good rating would really be appreciated.

I have been buring DVD's since they started selling them for the PC. compatibility has been the only problem I have had.
My sony DVD player plays everything I throw at it.

No Power

Hi Rusty,
Open the cover , there must be a blown fuse, replace with another fuse of same value. If still not working take to service centre. This is a case of SMPS power supply failure.
