HP DV2000 Black Screen

I had this happen twice to my unit and each was preceded with three beeps. I took it to a technician who told me he'll heat up the motherboard. There were a 3 or 4 similar units in his table with the same problem. The screen came back after the heating cure. The second time happened after 4 months and I had to take it for a third time within 2 weeks. This is bad. Just earlier today, I got it back from the shop and when I booted it up it, the familiar 3 beeps went again.I remember the technician say (on the 2nd visit) that it may also be with the battery. So, I removed my old battery and put on my spare battery and it worked. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will continue to work. The last resort I was informed was to replace the motherboard.

What might be the cause of hp pavillion dv2000 not displaying on the screen at start up and giving 3 beeps, 1 long and 2 short, sometimes it boot but doesn't get to the desktop area?

1 long beep followed by two short beeps is usually indicative of a failed/failing display adapter. On something as.... rustic as your dv2000 it can be fixed.... but probably would see better value from just replacing the unit.

2) if it fails, remove the RAM and reinsart the ram
3) If the same issue then take out the ram and put it back by interchanging the slot of the ram. we need to check the ram one by one
use the 1st ram then check
if same issue
then check with another ram
issue should get resolved
4) if the same issue then the ram is gone bad

HP pavillion dv2000 black screen with all lights on after the power is on the operating system didn''t load. It is only black screen.

There are many problems that can cause this. It can be the monitor itself, it can be bad RAM memory, faulty hard disk, corrupted windows install, etc. The only surefire way to pinpoint the problem and get it fixed will unfortunetly be to get it to your local technician and get it opened up.

Hp pavilion dv2000 notebook will not boot up

hi,
i m in Hong Kong. The stupid HP repair center charged US 90 just for inspection!!!!! They they said the whole motherboard had to be replaced, thts additional US 630 dollars, the thing is just 1.5 yr old. They also said i don get to keep the broken mother board after replacement. This is simply irresponsible, unethical, sleazy and UNJUST!!

Thanks. right now the computer is fixed for US70. when i hv time, i'll open it up and see if i can figure it out how it was fixed. The shop suggested tht the computer wont last too long. This is such bad quality for HP... Sorry, i hv to do the following for other victims to find this easily:
(can some creative netizen bring this to the public light to pressure HP to do the ethical things??)

HP 1 long and 2 short beeps

I had the same problem. Turn on your laptop (dv2000) and let it do its thing with the black screen and One long and Two short beeps. Keep the laptop plugged in...Now here is where the "are you kidding me" part kicks in.

Wrap your laptop (while it's on) in a blanket and put it on a bed or a couch (where the laptop won't have room to circulate air beneath it). You must leave it wrapped in the blanket for about 30 minutes minimum, or wait an hour if possible.

Chances are, your laptop will get ver hot and shut itself down at some point before you come back in an hour. When the hour is up, try turning on your laptop again. Ideally, it should work and you now have a working laptop again.

I realize this sounds crazy, but I am typing this quick fix from my dv2000 after doing exactly what i just subscribed. I read it on some other forum when i was on my wife's pc. If this doesn't work the first time, try it one or two more times. This trick has something to do with getting a "broken" (?) connection between the video card and the motherboard soddering back together.

Hope this helps at least one of you. Good luck.
