If you have the system operating cd, than you can begin this first step: get all of the drivers for your notebook before you strat.
step 2: you need to re-installthe operating system
step3: DO NOT UPGRADE! a new install will fix your problem
step 4: When your installation is finished - install your drivers and you will have the full run of your harddrive.
that will give you much more disk space for you to use! enjoy.

Try a disk clean up first on your OS partition. Check out Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools> and run Windows Disk Clean Up. Pretty self explanitory.

Also check out CleanUp! at www.stevengould.org.

To resize your partitions, check out Partition Magic but be careful if this is the recovery partion as you may corrupt.

Message hard drive nearly full, but there is a 2nd empty one.

First, I would check about D drive being an internal hard drive. Most likely it's a CD/DVR drive which you would need to use CD'S to save anything from the C drive. The D drive would show up as a drive on the computer, but I suspect it's probably a CD drive.

I've tried to formatted my 1tb hard drivenfts hard drive to fat32 and it cut into less than half, unhappy and i tried formatting it back to nfts and its still cut into less than half, please help me...

The reason that this happened to you is that FAT32 supports a maximum of 32GB. You can refer to the following table for information on the size limitations
http://www.ntfs.com/ntfs_vs_fat.htm
Now to correct your situation and get the full disk size formatted NTFS, do the following
1) Right click on My Computer 2) Click Manage 3) Click Disk Management 4) Locate the drive on the right hand side, verify that you have the proper one, check the size (it will list the full size on left of the drive listing 5) Right click on any partitions and delete them ("Delete Volume") 6) Right click on the empty space and create an NTFS partition, you will be prompted for the size of the disk, it will default to the full disk on a 1TB drive. So you should be able to just accept that prompt. 7) Format the disk NTFS
You can do a quick format, but considering all the changes made, you might want to consider doing a full format. I will warn you that it will take more time (probably 2-3 hours vs seconds on quick format) but I would trust my data better knowing it was fully formatted properly.
Good luck!

Acer 5315 HD C is full HD D empty

Very likely the answer is yes, IF: 1) there is enough space and 2) that D drive is not being used for something else. Check on what is on the D drive. It's usually reserved by the manufacturer and contains OS restore files (used for restoring your system after a crash). Don't delete these, but if there is enough free space, just create a new folder and put your files in there.

Need space on C drive

1 you need to confirm for sure if they are partitions on the same drive or 2 separate drives
2 if they are separate drives there is nothing you can do but change the file path of anything you are downloading/installing to your other drive. If they are on the same drive them you need 3rd party software like Partition Magic to make needed changes.
3 You can also recover unused space by downloading and installing CCleaner from Download.com

When logging on error message telling me disk nearly full delete files etc

This message means the hard disk is nearly out of disk space.
Do you regularly do a Disk Cleanup and empty the Recycle Bin? These disk maintenance chores will free up disk-space by removing old temporary and compressed files. Therefore returning disk space for further use.
To do a Disk Cleanup follow these steps. This can take hours to complete, it depends upon the size of the hard disk especially if it has not been done before.
Click on My Computer - right click on the C drive and click on the Disk Cleanup button. After it analyzes the hard disk then click all the boxes to recover the maximum disk space, click OK then YES to perform these actions.

Hello, my problem is that i can't seem to get my second (built-in) 140gb hdd to store any data?! My first drive is almost completely full and keeps coming up with the low disk space warning! I was just...

you will have to slave your hard drive

Make sure you configure the jumpers on the old drive correctly and connect only as a slave. Booting a PC with 2 hard disks, each with it's own OS and logical DOS partitions, without one configured properly as a slave, can irrepairably damage a PC.

Free Space problem

Running at that low of free space is a bad thing to begin with. You didn't specify if it's your primary drive, internal or external, or anythign, but I'm going to assume it's the one with Windows/Operating system on it.

Most modern operating systems need a few hundred megabytes, if not more, as "swap" or "temp" space. When your drive drops down to the levels you seem to be at you can get problems liek that which you mentioned, due to free space allocation for temp files, and whatnot.

Without more detail, like which operating system, type of HD, HD use, type of file you're saving and total space on the HD, I am afraid I can't help more.

For now I suggest deleting some old files, emptying your trash can/recycle bin, or simply restarting (if you don't do that much) to clear the cache.
