It appears lens assembly got broke for some reason and need to be replaced. Qualified camera tech will take apart lens mechanism and will replace broken/ cracked part to get camera back in function.
Hope this will help.

Error message remove lense capand press "play" button. The lense cap is not on.

The lens is jammed in, either the unit has had a knock or there is debris (sand/grit) in the unit, been to the beach lately.
Check to see if the lens is sitting level with the front of the camera. Unit will probably need to go in for servicing.

"Remove lens cap"

Lens damaged or grit/sand in it. If the lens is out at all then whoever was using it will know what happened, as it was going at the time.

If you think it's sand/grit, try tapping it on the bottom, while holding it lens downwards 1 foot above a piece of white paper, see what falls out.

I fixed these units for 4 years and we used to collect sand and tape it to the camera because customers would deny taking them to the beach. LOL.

Hey guys

If you don't want to pay for the (expensive) repair, then stripping it down and checking that the lens motor, cogs and housing and moving correctly. It's not for the faint-hearted, but it's not really complicated… the Instructable for the FZ5 covers it

I had the same problem after dropping the camera. In my case, the lens became jammed. Of course your problem may be due to something else. In my case, I disassembed the camera and reassembled it and it now works fine. It was a bit time-consuming to do, but is possible.

I used these instructions, although they are for a somewhat different model.

In the case of the FZ5, some people reported being able to get the lens to work by manipulating the lens without taking the camera apart. This might work if the cog inside has slipped off of it's track. In that case it might be possible to work it back into place. If the cog is intact, though, forcing the lens might damage it.
