Air filter location/fit problem

I recently purchased a home with 2 tempstar 5000 gas furnace/air handlers. When I slide up the bottom panel next to the blower, on the left side, sitting on the bottom of the unit I see an air filter. However it is just sitting there with nothing holding in position. Is there a way to fix this or is the filter not in the correct place

The main thing is to make sure no air is escaping around the filter you could always use something like a brick to keep it in place or bend a coastr hanger to hold it just make sure nothing hits the blower wheel

there are also a lot of high efficiency air cleaners that you can install in your system which is a yearly filter and has its own housing to hold the filters these filtrate a lot better than those 1" filters

Tip

Furnace issues? Read this first!

Many furnace troubles can be attributed to a dirty air filter. A dirty filter makes the convection air blower work harder than normal increasing the electrical consumption of the furnace, it will not allow enough air to the heat exchanger causing it to over heat and it will take much longer run times to heat your home. It is easy to check your filter and very inexpensive to change it. There are two typical areas where filters are located, one is in the return air duct or Plenum next to the furnace and may have a metal cover that slides off or held on by a screw. The other typical area is inside the furnace cabinet in the blower compartment. You can purchase basic filters that catch larger particles or spend a few more dollars on a pleated filter that will not only catch smaller particulate, it will last longer because of the more surface area.

I have Coleman Evcon Presidential furnace. I can't find where is filter. I want to replace it but can't locate it on furnace. is there any?

If the filter is not mounted on the inside of the wall intake and serviced by a hinged door then it maybe located in the air handler directly below the blower fan in a thin tray that is just shy of the width of the air handler and as thin as a 1/2 inch. There is usually a single thumb pull in the center to access the tray. Here's the bad news. Out of the 5 times I've run into this the reusable filter was removed and thrown out, no one knew what happened to it, there were no disposable replacements that thin to fit. I ended up installing an intake vent door that fit standard disposable filters which cost less than going back to the manufacturer for the original reusable replacement part. Hope you find this helpful.Make sure you check the upstairs ceilings for intake filters first before you give up.

Our Gibson KG7TC060D24B "tries" to start, but the shuts off before ignition. Technicians have replaced the control panel and other components but the problem persists, with the furnace working for a few...

This is possible, however it is possible they are missing something simple. I hope you can follow along.
1) Is this a Sealed Combustion Furnace, meaning you cannot get to the burners even after you remove the Door Panels?

2) If yes, is this furnace vented with pvc/plastic piping?
3) If yes, do both pipes go outside?
4) If yes then try this.

1) Turn the main power off to the furnace
2) Remove the Door Panel to the burner section.
3) Turn Furnace back and turn the thermostat all the way up.
4)Look into the burner compartment and tell me if the igniter glows red. If it does and the goes out with the burners not coming on.

5) If you feel comfortable or know of someone that is.
6) Turn the furnace off, remove the panel that conceals the burner compartment.

7) Turn the furnace on, if the igniter glows red and the burners ignite. Your problem is in the venting system. Most likely the intake pipe if it goes outside. It could be plugged or something is blocking it. If the burners do not ignite the next thing to make sure that is happening is that the Exhaust blower is operating and you can feel air outside where the pipe terminates. If you it is but no very strong, then your problem could be the inducer motor or to small of vent pipe.

If you could, send me some information about how it starts up
1) Main blower may come on and shut off, make sure the blower runs in on position 1st then back to Auto position. If it does not, you have another problem.

2) The Exhaust blower should come on next
3) About 17secs. later the igniter should glow red.
4) You will here the gas valve make a click
5) The Burners will ignite
6) The flame sensor rod on the far left hand side of the burner will keep the burner lit. If it is dirty the burners will shutdown.
7)About 90secs. later the main blower will come on.

CAPF3636C6AA where do I put the filter?

This model numbers associated with this post are for a heat pump system. Usually the filter is not located in these units but is located in the bottom of the air handler or furnace box. if it is not there then look either in the metal duct next to the air handler box or in the return grills in the living area of the home. I hope this helps:)

Where is the filter for the return on a central system that has the return air routed thru the walls to the basement? I removed the side panel on the unit in the basement and only found the blower motor...

The Filter can be on the register, next to unit where the furnace/air handler connects with the ductwork, sometimes you will find it inside but it will be near the ductwork connection .
If you see a lot of dirt on the blower, probably there is no filter at all, I see that sometimes.
I hope this help you.

We recently purchased a home with a heil furnace and I need to know what size filter it requires. It is a gas heil model # NUG1075DF01. Please help !

That is hard to answer but I would say that for a furnace of that size you are probably looking at somewhere around 16x20x1. On older heil furnaces they often had the filter mounted inside the blower compartment so if the case you can just remove the cover and measure it. If not it should be located on the return air duct close to the furnace. Hope this helps you some. Thank you.

How do i replace the filter?

Most forced air heaters have a filter in the return air grill located in the home or building. also try looking around the base of the furnace itself. they sometime slide in next to the furnace.
