3 possible reasons this is happening. The control board part number
WR55X10172 Is defective. or the defrost heater or defrost thermostat. This also can be caused by the main control board part number WR55X10656 The first photo shows burn marks on the back side of the control board. We need to unplug and examine the main control board on both sides. You can visit my website and enter the model number into the model and search feature. That takes you the a list of photos of your refrigerator. You also can email me or call. My email is appliancepartsse@yahoo.com and my sites are listed below, Thank You Sea Breeze

Thanks, for the rate. I don't always blame the mother board but on that model they need to be included because there is no defrost timer or Adaptive Defrost Control. The mother board decides what to do on your model. But Jumptrout is correct to say remove the cover and look, but I believe checking the heating element before replacing might be a good idea. Just unplug the refrigerator and disconnect one wire on one end of the defrost element and use a multimeter to see what or if any continuity is found through the defrost heater. The defrost thermostat will open its contacts above 50 degrees. So at that temp you probably read no reading with your ohm meter. Thanks Again, Sea Breeze

Here is a photo of the defrost heater. It appears to be glass. You will possibly see if yours is burned out without a meter.

Part number WR51X10055 And the defrost thermostat you should change when you replace the defrost heater is part number WR50X10068 Let us know if need assistance, Thanks, Sea Breeze

When it stops cooling again remove the back panel from the freezer and look for a ice buildup on the evaporator coils. If so, replace the defrost heater and thermostat.

GE Refrigerator isn't cooling properly freezer is freezing ice

You have a defrost problem !

The fridge isn`t defrosting automatically . Although it`s likely the defrost timer motor seized , it could also be the defrost termination switch , also known as the DTS switch , (or limiter switch) ..... or the defrost heater itself .

Any one of those three will give you the exact same symptoms .

You can diagnose this problem yourself simply by emptying the fridge , unplugging it with the doors slightly open , and letting it defrost for a good 24 to 48 hours .

Plug it back in , and let it run for about 12 to 18 hours . If the temperatures are OK after that , and remain OK for a few days , the problem is exactly as I described .

A defrost timer is worth about $30 to $40 .......... a DTS about $10 to $12 ............. and a heater anywhere between $25 to $75 , depending on the model .

GE PSS26LSRE refrigerator\r\nfan is running, compressor is hot, but not cooling, please help

Please shut off the fridge for about few hours and then restart the fridge. If you notice that there is still no cooling from the freezer then it for sure that your compressor is not pumping or that your gas is run out. If however the cooling has returned then you will have to make sure that your thermostat is fine, the auto deffrost timer is also working Ok. You must seek help if your are not familiar with the work of gas filling or checking for leaks in the system.Take an estimate and proceed. Hope I could help;Good day

GE Profile side-by-side fridge and freezer not cooling properly

Could be a few things. Condenser coil clean? Is the back panel cover of the compressor panel in place? It could have a bad part in the defrost system and it's built up with frost on the coil. To see if this is the problem, unplug the refrigerator and leave the doors open for 24 - 36 hrs. then plug it back in. It should work normal again for a few days until the frost builds back up. If this is the case the defrost system needs repair.

GE Profile - fridge not cooling

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

GE profile refrigerator line freezes, fan blows but no cold air?

OK, I think I understand. Thing is we need to do a few things to see if your control board is the problem or if the fan or a freon leak is the answer. You need to tell me if this began suddenly or if over a period of time. I have been having trouble lately from Fixya if the customer (YOU) responds to my solutions. Let me know if you want my help and I will see if I get a email letting me know of your response, Thanks, Sea Breeze
