Thanks for reply -I have removed both RAM modules and checked and they appear fine. I have connected to external monitor and still the same black screen. I have removed the hard drive and placed in dock into another machine and scanned without any issues. I have swapped round the RAM with eachother and different slots still the same. Motherboard (as you mentioned) or Video Adaptor could be the problem, what do you reckon? sadly out of warrenty so may have to play around myself.

no chance of it being the Graphics Adaptor? when plugged into external monitor I see nothing aswell..

  • macleas Jul 17, 2009

reading about the spec of the machine it has integrated graphics.that means i wouldn't be able to replace it anyway without replacing the whole motherboard? am i correct in that? If so I'll go the motherboard route and try and replace that.

First thing to do is remove battery, then remove your ram and then wipe off ram connections, replace ram, replace battery, power back up. If this doesnt solve problem, then could be problem with motherboard or connection between monitor and base. Also try hooking up to another monitor and see if you can access computor.

Has to be motherboard. Sounds like you covered all other bases.

I am leaning more toward the motherboard. They both cost around the same to replace. Question has unit ever been dropped?

Yes you are correct. You are doing your homework. Good job! Someone with brains!!!

Computer starts up but screen stays black

If it's a desktop; check that power is supplied to the screen.
If it's a laptop; you may have a bad screen or its just not booting up.

My Acer laptop will not boot up.

You may have a corrupted video driver due to an update. For some Acers, press and hold F10 when starting the computer. Two beeps will mean that the bios settings have been restored and the machine may boot correctly. If you can enter the BIOS via F2, F1, F10, ESC or DEL, then find the area for display and change it to low resolution then save and restart your computer. Once running, you will need to uninstall the current video driver and have the computer install a new one.

Cant get password to work on my Ferrari 1100 acer

You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Click on one of these links to download HIREN'S BOOTCD :- http://www.hirensbootcd.net/ http://67.20.82.163/

1100 ferrari acer power but no screen?

Assuming no BIOS is displayed
  • Memory could be bad
  • Motherboard could be bad
  • Backlight could be bad
  • Inverter could be bad
  • Screen could be bad

Pull the memory modules out and boot the computer if it makes it to BIOS and then beeps at you one or more of the memory modules are bad, replace one at a time if you have more and test until it breaks again then you know which to replace.

To Test the inverter and backlight hook up an external monitor and boot the computer. If it displays correctly on the monitor then you've narrowed it down to a bad screen, inverter or backlight. Backlights don't usually go out.

Remove the monitor and boot the computer. Shine a flashlight on the screen and look for a very faint image of what should be displayed. If you see one I'd start by replacing the inverter. If you don't see one the screen is bad.

If none of this worked then replace the motherboard.

I have been using acer Ferrari 1100 for the past two years now, but recently when I open like two to three applications same time, it will just show blue screen and restart itself. please what can I do

It seems something in your Ferrari giving problem. (hardware).
You can start checking with the HDD.
Go to BIOS and run the HDD self test, If it passed you can run the memory test.
I am sure one part from these two is faulty.

Unplugg any external device and restart the computer. If still not, Click on F2 as soon as the computer restarts.. It will open BIOS, press F9 & then F10. Restart the computer.

My acer travelmate wont boot just beeps 4 times i recently reinstalled XP Pro os on acer ferrari 4000 and have recieved this same problem 4 beeps and black screen.won't boot..bios or os. HELP

I long + 3 short beeps or 3 short + 1 long beeps indicates memory problem.
The RAM module/s may need reseating to re-establish proper electrical contact.
If it still doesn't boot up then :-
Get the RAM module/s may be faulty, test the module/s in another laptop or get your friendly computer shop to test them.
