Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Both washer and dryer (MDG5500A) dead except for drum lights.

While both machines were operating a loose connection in the breaker panel caused an over voltage. The ceiling light on the same circuit would go alternately normal then bright then back again. At one point the control panels on each machine flashed PF before they went dead. The wiring has since been repaired, is there a reset procedure, fuse, circuit breaker, something I can do in the machine to restore operation?
Thanks,
Mike

    Except for the interior light

Great. thanks. I can't do it right now but probably can in the next few days.

Sorry, I meant to update you on this. I found the tech sheets and, since the boards were dead , couldn't get into the service mode. I replaced the control boards and that fixed both machines. One final thing, the washer squeaks like an old bedspring when the tub is rocking in normal operation. In fact I can just push on it and it will squeak. Any lube points and what lubricant do I use? Thanks for your help.

I am afraid there is no breaker or fuse inside the machines that will cause the control panels to go dead. You can check your power to the boards at L1 and neutral. If you have the proper voltage here but controls are dead, you will have to replace the control boards.
I notice in your problem heading it stops at the word except. Except what?
Thanks/mike

That makes sense. The light is powered by a different input than the display.

If you remove the console, there should be a tech sheet and wiring diagram inside to show you where to check for voltage. If you want to try to diagnose it, I will try to walk through the checks with you.

    Thanks/Mike

There are no lube points put in by the manufacturer. You will have to find the source of the squeek to know what can be done.

The tub hangs from springs at the top and has shocks at the bottom. If you find it is something that can be oiled, you can use general purpose grease, light machine oil, or the old faithful WD40 most anywhere on the washer.

Most likely it is coming from the points where the springs hook or it is some sheetmetal somewhere that is slightly loose and rubbing. You can use grease on the spring hooks.

You want to make sure it is not the bearing in the rear of the tub squeeking as it turns, this is a major repair.

    Thanks/Mike

Could be a bad thermal fuse, a bad drum belt, a door switch a loose wire , one of the computer boards or the user interphase. Time to call a qualified technician. This machine is a complex machine to disassemble and diagnose and if reassembled wrong could prove to be dangerous to operate.

Final high speed spin very noisey

Something is causing the drum to be way out of balance. Does it bang and make noise when it's spinning empty? Probably not. Is something stuck on the side (inside of course) of the drum, causing it to shake when spinning? If not, a spring or shock absorber (connecting drum to sides, bottom or top of machine) has broken or come loose.

I replaced heating element and thermostat dryer worked for 2 months now i dont get hot anymore

Hello George Schultz - Squeaking noise is usually caused by a problem with the belt, front and/or rear bearing, or a loose connection with the motor/drum. Since you have previously replaced the heating element and thermostat, but the issue continues try resetting the unit by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes. If it proves to be ineffective, I recommend contacting a professional to accurately diagnose the unit, the part(s) may have to be replace depending if they are worn, damaged, or loose.

most probably the dryer is causing this.  the felt that holds the drum in alignment on the front panel is worn or has come loose allowing a gap to form between drum and front and so clothes can become wedged in the and taken for a spin around the drum and causing marks.

Hoover 0910dryer not heating. element replaced not long ago

Hi, the possible causes are: Possible Causes: The wall receptacle, power cord (plug) and electrical supply must be in good condition and wired correctly for the dryer to heat.
  • Supply Issue - Loose or missing connection on supply wire from circuit breaker.
  • Plug Issue - Loose or missing connection in the wall. Defective, worn or damaged wall plug.
  • Cord Issue - Loose, missing or incorrect connection of the power cord to the dryer terminals.
If gas dryer and does not heat, Gas Dryer heats with a gas burner, make sure the gas supply line valve is open.
Also, for electric dryer,
Electric dryers require two 30 amp breakers or fuses in the house electrical box to run and heat. If one breaker is tripped or one fuse is blown, the motor, the timer and lights can work but the dryer will not heat.
