Question about Acer Aspire 5500 5570-2609 Laptop

1 Answer

External monitor I just bought a new laptop, it was one of the floor models in the store, after a while i noticed this large crack happening, anyways,it took over the whole screen, and i cant see anything now. So, i bought a new samsung 19" LCD monitor.Everythimng works fine when i use safe mode, but as soon as i run windows normally the monitor goes into stand-by, or displays my background image (but no icons or start menu). ive tried using the FN keys to switch between monitors, but no go. not sure if you have any ideas on how to get the new monitor to display as my main monitor.

My screen works good as long as the lid is in a certain position

There's a good chance that the cable between the monitor and the body of the laptop is broken/cracked. This tends to happen after a lot of use.

On mine, I added an external monitor, grabbed all the data off the laptop that I wanted, and bought a new laptop. : (

If yours is still under warranty, you may be able to get it fixed. Otherwise the cost of replacement may not be worth it, since the price of laptops has come down SO much.

Go into your display settings. It should show at least two different monitors. Your laptop monitor and the external one your plugged into. Click on the external one and click on the two check boxes. Click on extend the desktop into this monitor first. Then click on this is my main monitor. Reboot your computer and it should be on your external monitor.

If it's so new then you'd better return it to the store and demand a replacement. This may be just a loose LCD cabling that's easily fixable, but it can also be a defective inverter. In either case, this should not happen with new laptops, and it is not your problem to fix. Ask a new laptop. Insist on it. You cannot be sure what the defect may be, and service centers usually stall or procrastinate dealing with the problem until the warranty is out. Then they tell you what really is the problem... but then you're the one picking up the bill. So don't play their game, insist for a replacement or therten that you'll start talking on facebook. That ought to do the trick. Nobody wants bad publicity.

Hi there,

The way to find out if it's just the screen is to connect the laptop to an external monitor. Pay attention to the F keys when you connect the laptop. On most Toshibas, you'll see a small depiction on the F5 key of a laptop next to a monitor. You either have to press that key alone, or hold down the fn key and then press the F5 key and let go to transfer the signal to the external monitor.

If the external monitor shows up good and you can perform all other functions on your laptop while viewing the monitor, you need only replace the laptop LCD. If it does not display correctly, then you're into the next round of troubleshooting.

Hope it works as above.

Good Luck

Cause If you connected the monitor power already is on, you may not get signal. Power plug off the monitor first, Then connected to laptop. Then power the laptop and power the monitor. FN key press hold with your Monitor swicthing key which symbol of two monitor shows on key probably number 5 or 6 maybe 7 check user guide if you have it.
another cause is your monitor may need driver install in your laptop, Some system required that. Check monitor system requirements.

ACER cracked screen..external monitor???

Hi there.
The keyboard toggle you are using is the correct one.
Sometimes you have to hit Fn + F5 a couple of times to stay on there is no real set time. Make sure Fn + F6 is on so the laptop screen stays on.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

Monitor flickering and rolling

Thanks for the git back: #1 I hooked up a second monitor (depressed fn+f5) and was able to view everything fine. No problem in any area. Ran Some security checks (malwarebytes, checked windows updates,Secunia PSI,and a virus scan. #2 I opened up the monitor and checked for possible loose connections. #3 brought up the graphics display and checked that 60 hrz was set and correct. #4 ran a backup of all my data from my other monitor, and I made the assumption that it was a bad monitor and I might save some money if I just bought a new laptop.Would like to here your comments.
