This can be repaired of it's later than a series 1. (not sure if the 1997 model was a series 1) Repair cost will be $225 plus tax (flat rate). Shipping is split between you and Bose. They give you a new 1 year warranty.
Otherwise, Bose can have you trade this in for about 25% off a new, current system.
-If this still powers up, make sure the small 1/8" portion of the input cable (plugged into "system control 1") is in good condition, because you may just need to replace that input cable for a no audio situation. If it's a different series, it will say "zone 1" I think.
In either case, you should call Bose tech support about this. (800-367-4008) Make sure you're with your system so they know what series of LS5 this is.

FAILED 802 CALL BOSSE

I have the same problem since the Earthquake in Christchurch NZ.. Called Bose support centre and it seems the hard drive has failed and will need replacing, so all stored music etc lost. Cost to fix is roughly the same as getting a new media centre (DVD/CD) component. We are getting a new one through our insurance, apparently Bose Lifestyle's do not like being shaken around a lot or dropped.
Normally accompanied by a screetching sort of sound when you try to access stored music or turn the unit off.

Go to www.bose.com for customer support, ask for a bose dealer near you, chances are you will have to go through a Bose Store to get what is needed.

Bose lifestyle 5 keeps shutting off sound

KEEPS SHUTTING OFF SOUND AFTER ABOUT 1 TO 2 HOURS OF PLAYING. HAS POWER, EVERYTHING LIGHTS. I THINK THE PROBLEM IS SOMEWHERE INSIDE THE ACCOUSTIMAS MODULE OR THE SUBWOOFER.

Not good surround sound Is the bose lifestyle 5 support 5.1 surround sound?

The Bose Lifestyle 5 is not a 5.1 surround sound system. It is a 2.1 sound system, meaning it is stereo with a subwoofer/bass unit. Having two speakers that can be angled in different directions, the Bose Lifestyle 5 employs Bose direct/reflecting technology, providing greater audio presence. Still, it is definitely not a surround sound system.

Lifestyle 12 speaks - new HDTV

mount to wall, brackets available to purcahse on loads of on line sites. and from bose direct cost 5 dolurs to 50 dollars eack depending how fancy you want to be.
would recomment also distancing the left right satellites as you will be amazed how much improvement in sound is gained from a well defined centre channel.

also if you want to be really smart. its really not necessary to see the centre satelliet and it could simply sit of the stand behind the tv. with no problem. plus you could use the tv audio input to make the tv as a centre channel. you would be surprised how well that works. make sure you disable the tvs steroe function or your surround sound will not sound too surround....

finally if you have lifestyle series II make sure you conect the 5.1 input to the bass box to your tv. and get rid of the bose cd player , put it out of sight, and loose the remote. will work even better than it did before !

6 disk will not eject

you are all correct......

as are many other people with 6 disk cd changers in the same boat. check out this web site i have found at least 15 others with the same problem ( round about , but all problems relate to the 6 disk cd changer.)
the 6 disk changer is not excluse part to bose.
i recommend forcebaly removing the dam thing trying not to damage it further,( savge smashing the cd changer cassette) and trying to get a new one somewhere)

really though, you should consider surgury, - > open it and obtain spare parts to repair in the usual bodging fashion. ( that is to say any way you can ) or else return to manufacturer for remanufactured or replacement units at a cost or try to find replacement units on line such as ebay.

Bose Lifestyle 48 Series IV

hate to stae the obvious and painfull answer, but that nees to go back to the shop where if the sales guy cant get it sorted for you it could be a firmware crash and tus a warranty replacement, i know the manual is not that good in this specif area. and a non warranty reset may cost money, if warranty does not cover this specific area of adventure as it is possible they could blame the content of the media being corrupted in some way, could be ahrd one.

however you could try remoing the disk and resetting the system according to manual frist.

good luck ;-)
