The CD part of my player does not start.

From what it sounds like, the laser lens in your cd player is having trouble reading discs. Is it just one cd or all? assuming it's all. you make want to get a cd lens cleaner disc....it's basically a cd with little bristles on the bottom designed to 'sweep away' the dust that accumulates on the lens. However, should you do that a few times (i usually give it about five good runs) and it still doesnt work, try another disc and listen closely for any sort of 'out of place' clicking noises....especially a monotonous repetitively click or ticking.... that usually indicates that the lens carriage has somehow jammed or come off track and needs to be replaced or refitted. refitting them on the track isnt difficult and once you open it up it's pretty self explanatory if you're mechanically inclined.
