The manual for your docking station should on its last page have contact information. I obtained the above email out of an online manual. This information is challenging to obtain. I hope what I have provided gives you some idea of what is involved.

Are you using a voltage adapter of some kind to convert the ireland standard 220VAC to the USA standard 120VAC that this device uses? Over voltage can deplete an electronics life very quickly.
By the sound of the "thump-thump-thump" noise emitting from the device, you may have a broken ipod dock connector, or a short somewhere in the connector/wiring/device itself, or the ground has failed.
By the description of having to "tweak" your ipod to hear it, it sounds like you've slowly broken the dock connector. Check to see if it moves easily, or if you can hear anything loose.
This is more than likely fixable, but it's probably easier to replace the device than to fix a broken connector.

IF the connector is broken, see if you got warranty on it, or repair service at
https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do

Basicly, you would need to replace the connector if its broken, if you need to ask how, then its best that you take it to someone or apple for repair.
