I'm just after inserting new dvd rom drive into my ps3 witch came wit no laser or laser carriage or no controller board. But I'm still having problems inserting the discs. I have to force feed the disc into the ps3. It won't **** into ps3 by itself. The new drive has solved the problem of discs getting stuck in the ps3 when i try to eject them. But I still have the problem of inserting the disc.

i'm just after inserting new Dvd rom drive into my ps3 that came with no laser, laser carriage or controller board. The ps3 won't take in discs by itself. I need to force feed the disc into the ps3. The new drive has fixed the problem of discs getting stuck in ps3 when I press eject. But it still has problems taking discs into the ps3.

I thought that might be the problem alright. Could you tell me where I might get a controler board and how much is it likely to cost me?

  • mossy74 Jul 22, 2009

I was searching the net for controller boards for my ps3 and it seems you need to match the controller board with the mother board it came with for it to work. I'm just wondering is this true or not and if so what can I do to solve my problem?

I get the idea from what you wrote that you replaced the dvd rom and not the controller board. Some of your problem was resolved... but your problem also also seems to be related to issues around a bad controller board. MY recommendation is to replace that.

Hope this helps!

I would check with Sony FIRST.. if I got no luck there, I might try eBay. I did a quick look and it appears eBay has them for under $40 bucks..

    Hope this helps!!

I would love to tell you it doesn't matter but if it did, you would then need to buy a new motherboard and another controller board... I don't know the answer to your final question, however...

It seems illogical that a controller board would be tied to a motherboard in that way but your best bet is to call Sony to verify...

This type of problem occur only when the correct voltage is not given to the equipment. I'd suggest you to give power to the dvd through different wire if it has. If not just check the output of the power cable powering your DVD for further clarification.

My playstation 3 will not play disc i replaced cd?

your ps3 laser is definitely on the frits or completely fried. it tends to happen to ps3 more frequent in dusty or smokey homes or rooms. not much you can do it cost overe $100 to fix when you can buy brand new one for $100 more. the problem is fixable but my opinion a new one is a better option. you can still use the burnt laser ps3 to watch netflix or other forms of files not dvd or cd

CD DVD ROM doesnt read dvds when i insert the disk the light turns on i can hear the dvd turning but later on it stops. turn and stop again. then it doesnt read the dvd anymore

how long have you been using this CD ROM? I suspect the laser (lens) of the CD ROM. I think the laser (lens) is weak that's why it cannot read data/files on DVD.

To confirm if actually its a laser problem, insert an Audio CD into the CD ROM and see if will play. If it plays, then obviously, your laser (lens) is weak. But if it doesn't play Audio CD, then it might still be the laser (lens) or a mechanism problem.

Get a lens cleaner, use it to clean the lens. If that doesn't solve the problem, get a screw driver, open the CD ROM cover so that you can gain access to the lens, use a cotton board to clean the surface of the lens. This should clean dust or dirt that might be on the lens.

If non of the above solves the problem, then know that you need to replace the laser to a brand new CD ROM.

Good luck...........

My cd rom does not read dvds

you might as well check your Toshiba PC Laptop if your CD-ROM can read DVD's .. Look at this figure... ryanpajaro20_6.jpg

There will be a hint for you to check the Optical drive if it has the DVD label. Otherwise , consult Toshiba for it...

Dvd not spinning (on any dvd/cd/etc)

You need to replace the laser and carriage drive of your ps3. Checkout ebay for around £50 you can get a new one, although you do have to fit it yourself, but there are help videos on youtube.

My emachines dvd rom is not detecting a dvd in the drive

Dissamble the dvd rom from pc. Open it and clean the laser with a soft cloth or try a dvd lens cleaner disk. You can buy it from any hardware shop. Connect the cables correctly. Start with a fresh dvd disk. If your pc still can't detect dvd disc, replace dvd rom with a new one.

Dvd rom in ps3 not reading

first of all its a blu ray drive. And sorry to say your probably out of luck, blu ray drives in ps3's ****, they are the cheapest blu ray drive on the market and they wear out fast. I think sony fixes them for 160$ without warrenty, if u do have warrenty just send it in. Hope this helps.

Dvd fault

your laser is faulty and is only able to read cd tracks, the reason being that dvd's data is packed closer together than a cd, and when the laser is failing it can only read wider burned data tracks on cd's.

You will have to replace the drive
