ive been having the same problem for about an hour now. ive just beatn phantom hourglass, and when i took the game out and swapped it for another one, the ds didnt recognize it. i tried all my games, and it just stopped working. ive disassembled it and cleaned it all out, and it still detects nothing. ive followed the advice aforementioned, and inserted them properly, but i think the device may be failing. im also using an original ds, this particular topic came up in a search.

I've been tinkering with ds's and dsl's for a little while. My son (very excited that Mom can "fix" them) brought home two of his friends dsls.. Two pink units, game properly inserted before the unit is turned on and neither one recognises that there is a game in. (game works fine in our dsl's)Curiously, it happened to both dsl's at the same time - working one day, not working the next. Will play gba games...

I've had a look - there appears to be some corrosion(?) in the ds cart slot in one of the units, but nothing in the other.

I'm reluctant to open up either unit if it's a main board problem, (I'm not sure if either unit has an applicable warranty) otherwise I would try cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and a stiff child's paint brush to get into the little crevices as a first option.

Would taking out the battery for "x" period of time help? Sort of re-setting it?

Any helpful advice or suggestions gratefully appreciated. (send it to Nintendo is not a helpful suggestion...)

    Many thanks.

I have the same problem, game is inserted correctly, clicks in and all that, power put on after game inserted and it just says, there is no DS card inserted, but will play the only GBA game we have.
    Very frustrating!

My daughter's DS had the same issue, worked one day and didn't work the next. I found that the contacts inside were just dirty. The slot is too small to fit a cotton swab, and most other things run a risk of bending the small connectors which would surely make it a paperweight. What I did was put a little dab of alcohol across the metal slides of one of her least favorite cartridges and clicked it in and out of the DS about 15 times and it worked perfectly. (the cartridge survived too). Hope this works for you too!

If the game makes an odd clicking noise going in, it's something in the slot.  My DS has this problem, which is how I know.  It's probably a bent pin inside slot-1, which is better off being left to a repair guy.  There're people on that can repair them, or you can buy the replacement part for $20 and re-solder it inside the DS.  If you're gonna do this, you'll want to buy a triwing screwdriver (best on ebay) if you don't have one.  Otherwise, don't take it to GameStop; it's not worth the money.  If your DS serial number is invalid or missing, Nintendo can replace it with a new DS Lite for $80 (that's the offer they gave me).  I hope this helps with your problem.

On any card or just one particular card?

Did you make sure the card is securely clicked into the Ds?

Is the inside of the Ds slot dirty or damaged?

Did you insert the game AFTER or BEFORE turning on the system? (the game should be put in FIRST before turning on the ds)

any more information would help us greatly to help you. =)

Both of my kids have DS Lites. Both systems aren't recognizing that there is a game inserted. Sometimes (maybe 1 out of 30 times inserted) we will get lucky and it will work so I know it isn't the games....

You really shouldn't. This is a design flaw, worthy of a class action lawsuit comparable to the one Microsoft faced for the Xbox 360 RROD fiasco. With the old ds, the gold contacts would bend and break over time from games being inserted and ejected and such. Nintendo "rectified" the problem by adding a spring to force it into the right place. Pretty stupid on their R&D dept.'s part. Forcing electronics only breaks them over time. The average lifespan of a DS lite is about a year. If you bought your kids their systems at about the same time, that would explain why they both dont work. I recommend ditching the DS. Either invest in PSPs, as they are more versatile, and you can pirate games on them, so you don't have to pay $60 for a game because you can download them on the internet. But if your kids really want to keep the DS, I have a suggestion. My sister has a lite, and has had it since it first came out. If you pay the $75 to get it fixed, it could be cheaper in the long run, as it will never break again if you do what i'm about to tell you, and you'll never pay for another game again. My sister prevented this on her Ds Lite because she never ejects her cartridge. she has something called an R4 chip. Its really easy to use. the R4 is a cartridge that has a slot that can house a micro SD card. You can actually download games to this chip, for free from various places on the internet. And the DS will never break again from wear and tear, because you dont eject the R4 if you want more games, you eject the micro SD from the R4. Shoot me an email at if you want to know more about this. No i do not work for R4, i sincerely believe this course of action will save you the most money. Here is R4s website. Take a look.

The port where you insert a game on my son's DSi is broken. It just ejects the game, won't hold. Any help?

sounds like the clip is broken that holds it down. you could try to put it in there and move the game back and forth inside (not much tho) till it stays. if it dosent work take it back as not not void the warenty ( asuming u have one) if u dont have a warenty then i say get the rite screw socets (flat head electronic screws wil work for now) and try to put it back on

Cartridge reader is not recognizing any of the games when inserted

Take a can of air and blow it gently into the cartridge reader to make sure dust or dirt is not preventing the DS to read the games.

Also make sure the contacts on the games are clean as well as. You can take a damp q-tip and wipe off the contacts and then dry them off.

If the DS still doesn't read the games then the DS is bad. If the unit is under warranty then contact Nintendo or go to the store you bought it from otherwise you'll have to buy another DS.

The DS does not recognize that the cartridge is plugged in

try taking out the cartridge and blowing out any dust or debris that might me stuck in there. the ar cant read a cartridge that has anything blocking the memory of ur game. OR you could have accidentally deleted the game from ur codelist, which is not good.

System does not recognize ds game

get yourself a damp cotton bud and wipe the contacts inside the cartridge and around the ds be careful so you dont put any water inside. you can also use rubbing alchohol. if it is happening on numerous cartridges then it could be a broken contact look at them to see if any1 is missing.

DS Card Not Recognized

the card slot may be dusty, blow gently into it (making sure no spittle gets in) or get a clean cloth and wipe the outside of it. On no account must the slot get wet, or it will probably get damaged and will not work.
