Question about ASUS P5WD2 Premium Motherboard

First time building power hookups on mobo

On my mobo it has three types of power hookups. 24 pin, 4 pin standerd , and a square 4 pin . the 24 pin and the standerd are next to each other but the square one is at the top of the board do i have to hook them all up? second question what is RAID and how is it used?

The general guidline is that if your power supply has the extra cables and your mobo can support them, then plug them in... those extra 4 wires in your long power strip will normally be used for grounding, so that's a must. check your mobo manual to see the exact specs. ... as for raid, wiki it man.

Swapped power supply and not sure if i connected everything

Basically there are only three important connections: The main ATX connector - usually 24 pin, plugs into motherboard at the edge near the memory slots [it's a 24 pin on your m/b]; the CPU power - plugs into the motherboard, 4 pin (square) [your m/b has the square 4-pin type, I think it's near the 'M' of the MS-7623 label], or 8 pin (4 x 2) on newer computers - and the hard drive power, usually a flattish 15-way connector (SATA) [your computer also has IDE capability, four in line pin connectors]. Your graphics card if present may need external power from your PSU, but seeing as you're not sure you've connected everything up, I'm assuming you don't have a graphics card.
The connectors are keyed so you can't put them in the wrong way round; do not force them, but they may be a bit stiff.
It would help if you told us the model of your PSU.
Be certain that the voltage input selector, if present, on the back (outside) of your PSU is set to the correct voltage.

No the mobo is compatible with the Power Supply, and GPU.
And vice-versa.

You mean the Processor (CPU) fan?

I'm guessing I guess, because computer case fans aren't on the motherboard/mainboard/mobo.

You're getting power to the mobo, but the question is how much?

1) IF ALL of the LED lights were on at once, they would use less than 1 Watt of power.

2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts of power.

3) A typical Processor can use from 51 to 125 Watts of power.
Just depends on what Processor it is.

The mobo will support Intel Core2 Quad-Core processors. Depending on which one, you may be talking about Up To 105 Watts of power,

This is why LED's can light, and fans may spin, but the Processor isn't getting enough power, so the computer will not turn on. (Processor isn't turning on)

Why?

1) Just because that Power Supply is new, doesn't mean it is good.
Sometimes you get a bad one. Test the three main voltages coming out, with a multimeter set to DC Voltage.

(An economical multimeter can be purchased, for as little as $8 to $12. I have seen cheaper. Available in a multitude of stores. An auto parts store is but one example )

2) You don't have the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable plugged in.
Goes to the white square 4-socket hole connector, to the left top corner of the Processor socket.
(Motherboard installed in computer case)

3) REQUIRES -> TWO 6-pin PCI-Express power cables, for the Nvidia GTX560Ti graphics card.

The Antec HCG750 PSU has 4 of them, so no problem there, IF you have two of them plugged into the graphics card.

Both connectors of the 20 + 4-pin ATX main power cable's connector, need to be used. Biostar mobo requires a 24-pin ATX main power cable.

Does not boot up. fans & hd run but no beep


Fans are usually 12Volts, hard drives are 12V for the motor and 5V and/or12V for the electronics inside. It could be a bad power supply that only puts out 12V but not 5V. Also ensure that all plug are okay, including the large 20 or 24 pin main plug, and some mo-bos have an additional square 4 pin power plug.
If swapping power supplies fixes it, there you go. Otherwise it's either a wiring problem or dead mobo.

I've got a new Gigabyte Ga-M68Mt-D3 mobo paired with a cooler master 460 watt power supple. Cpu is Amd phenom II 3.2 ghz with 4 gig of DDR3 ram. I powered up the supply attached to my ATX power supply...


Most motherboards now have a 24-pin power supply connector. If you haven't already found a diagram showing the pinouts of the 20- and 24-pin power plugs, here's one borrowed from a handy site:

The two plugs are essentially the same, but the 24-pin version duplicates some voltages on the extra pins. The extra pins in the larger connector were meant to provide extra current paths for voltages that see heavy loads from newer processors and motherboard circuitry. Depending on how a motherboard is designed, it might work with a 20-pin plug connected (leaving pins 11, 12, 23 and 24 empty). But typically if the board has a 24-pin connector it needs the 24-pin power supply plug.

Most power supplies have a 20-pin plug with a separate 4-pin section that fastens to it for connection to a 24-pin mobo connector. It typically has one side designed to slide onto the end of the 20-pin plug, essentially turning it into the 24-pin version. This added plug does not have a retaining clamp on its side, so you can tell it from the the 4-pin CPU power plug. The wire colors are also different. For reference, here is the processor power plug, from the same website:

New motherboard specs call for the separate processor power connector for the same reason the extra pins were added to the power supply connector: to handle the high currents needed by increasingly faster CPUs.

On the Dell board, the
CORRECT pinout for J8H1 is as follows:

1-3: HD LED (#1 is +)
2-4: PWR LED (#2 is +)
5-7: PWR ON/OFF
6-8: RESET
5,16: +5V
10,11,14,15: not connected
12,13: GND

Newly built system will not power up!


It seems like you have bad MOBO. I recently ordered all the stuff to build 2 new systems. Built the first one, no power, just like yours. Moved everything to the 2nd MOBO, everything worked. I did a RMA on the DOA MOBO. Got the new one and it fired right up. Sometimes you just get bad stuff.

I bought a 500 watt power supply


depends on the connector , most newer power supplies have a detachable 4-pin stuck to the side of the 20-pin making it 24. use the whole 24-pin plug if it fits , if you only have a 20 pin connector on the motherbaord, detache the 4-pin from the 24-pin making it 20.
