Install an 8gb microSD card in the SD slot. Garmin Express will then allow you to download maps to the SD card.

When i use garmin express to update the maps for my nuvi 52, i hit the install for maps and it doesn't complete the software update before it errors.

Do a hard reset on the device. Download Garmin Express and install it to your PC. Connect your device to your PC. Garmin Express will identify it and allow you to install all the maps and software that the device has a subscription to. You either have a corrupt file or a space issue. If it is a space issue, insert an SD card 8gb or less and have Garmin Express install the maps and updates to it.

I recently purchased the Nuvi260 lifetime map update - all maps don't fit on the nuvi. I added a 4GB Sandisk and installed it in the expansion slot. The map updater doesn't allow me to use the...

To use the extra SDCARD storage for your map should work. It's a bit of a complicated area to pull this through and requires quite a bit of reading to get it done.

Basically the install can be done from a PC / Mac with the Garmin Maps installed on there. From the Mac/PC it's installed on the SDCARD in your NUVI.

Below you find the link to Garmin's forum - read the posting where it says "Reply from Garmin International". It contains a PDF with all instructions in there. Register at Garmin's forum to download the PDF - this is the same Username/Password as used with registering the Nuvi at Mygarmin.com.

Map Install to SD-card

As an extra remark - please note that installing Garmin Maps on a PC for use with Mapsource requires at least 5Gb of disk space of the C-drive. When this is a problem - here's a way around clearing disk space on a PC for Garmin Map install.

I downloaded a free map upgrade for nuvi 250w. I didn't realise that I'd need an sd card. Now I seem to have lost some european maps. Can I retrieve them?

The problem with trying to put the full map of Europe on the 250 is that it doesn't have enough storage space. You can download the complete map however to your computer. The option to download again is available for approx 30 days. When it's on your computer you can select which maps you want to install to the satnav and install the complete map, if you want, to an SD card. You need a 4 Gb SD card to hold the complete map. To download the map again, to your computer, log into myGarmin. Click on the myMaps tab at the top of the screen. There you'll see the map you downloaded. Under the map name you'll see the word "Details" in blue. Click on "Details" and it will take you to a screen where you have the option to download the map again. When you go to download the map it will by default select your satnav as the destination. Change it to your computer so you get the whole map and you can add or remove maps whenever you want.

You can get more details of how to download the map to your computer at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps

I am trying to update garmin nuvi 250.I bought nu maps lifetime europe (2011.40) but device dose not have enough space for full coverage region.how much space is needed. If i buy a memory card for the...

The map takes approx 3 Gb of storage space so you need a 4 Gb memory card. When you download the map to your computer run it and install part of the map to your satnav. After this click the start button (bottom left of your computer screen) and find the menu folder "Garmin". In the Garmin folder you'll find "Mapinstall" With the memory card in your satnav, and the satnav connected to your computer run mapinstall being sure to select the memory card as the destination. (It will be by default your satnav not your memory card). When the installation is complete the satnav will automatically switch to the map on your memory card when needed. You'll find detailed instructions of how to prepare the memory card and install the map on it at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps

HAVING PURCHASED A LIMITED LIFETIME UPDATE FOR MY GARMIN NUVI 250W, I FIND THAT I CANNOT INSTALL WESTERN EUROPE MAPS. THE INFORMATION GIVEN WHEN I SELECT WESTERN EUROPE, IS THAT THERE IS INSUFFICIENT SPACE...

firstly the reason it cant see corresponding countries is that the garmin units treat each map as seperate , the only way to rectify it is to copy the maps folder from your device to your pc then delete the maps from your device and then download the western europe whole map, doing it this way will give you the space you require plus it will allow you to choose any of the countries in the map
