Question about Cell Phones

3 Answers

I have a GE 294842-A corded phone that is used with a Plantronics M22 amplifier, gives a buzzing sound when I talk to people...or they can't hear me and I can't hear them. I have a Plantronics AC/DC adaptor on the M22 and a different adapter on the GE phone...do not know if they are compatible. Can you advise please? I've been told the phone is compatible and others have said it may not be compatible with the amplifier.

Hi, I'm just wondering what radio shack would do to help with the buzzing sound.

  • shamch Jul 18, 2009

I need more suggestions on how to stop the buzzing on my GE telephone, so that it will work with the M22 Amplifier and H261 headset from Plantronics.

  • shamch Jul 18, 2009

Hi, I have contacted Plantronics and troubleshooted with them several times, and they say they cannot tell me which phones are compatible with my m22 amplifier unless I go to a store and then call them with a phone and the model number. They have said my GE phone is compatible however, one technician said GE phones are problematic with the m22 amplifier. I cannot get a 15.00 phone with a headset because I need a noise canceling corded phone because of a loud envirement I live around.

  • shamch Jul 19, 2009

can you suggest a phone that is compatible with the m22 amplifier? Plantronics tells me to go to the store and call them with the model # to see if the phone is compatible.

  • shamch Jul 20, 2009

Hi, when I picked the receiver up I can hear a dial tone but when I put my headset on and clicked the headset button I could not hear any sound...that's when I used a Plantronics AC120v..DC7 5v 200mA for my M22 amp. I used a Plantronics AC120..DC9v 300mA for my GE phone. One of these adapters were recommended to use for the m22. I do not know how to modify the input device, are you referring to changing the AC/DC adaptor. Also, where do I get a regulated AC/DC...I just purchased the above adaptor and dread having to spend more money on another one. I have my phone and amplifier on a desk right next to my computer out of necessity and I also have a floor lamp adjacent to my phone with a flurescent light bulb. Also, what is pinning?

    Thank you,

  • shamch Jul 20, 2009

Hi, Your answers seem to make sense, however, I am confused because I cannot connect my H261 to my GE phone because it is not made that way, the tip will only connect to the phone jack and not the headset jack because it is only a small hole, it will only go into the M22 amplifier. Am I to continue using the same two AC/DC adapters I mentioned earlier and use them with the regulated power supply from Radio Shack? Also, I do not see 4 terminals in regard to pinning and where is the connectors on the M22 Amplifier and telephone, please simply?

  • shamch Jul 24, 2009

Can you illustrate (show a picture) of how the H261 headset can be connected to my GE phone without the M22 amplifier, I just don't get it.

  • shamch Jul 24, 2009

Yes, I have tried to adjust the configuration a number of times. No, I can't use the headphone with my telephone because the tip of the headset cord is made to fit in the M22 only. Can you tell me what is meant by conversion?

Hi,

the unit can be tested manually even without any one calling you or without calling anybody.

first test if the headset produce the same buzzing sound when you lift up the phone.

if the unit do, then here is my suggestion:

a) replace the M22 amplifier AC? DC adaptor with a regulated one, say it is rated 9v replace it with a regulated 9v,

to eliminate or minimize the buzzing noise

b) replace the AC/DC adaptor of the GE phone with a regulated one say it is 6v, have it replaced by a regulated 6V

c) try to place the two units away from large transformers or anything like motors or fluorescent fixtures sometimes it produces noise too

d) modify the input wire, change pinning? or check pinning

try testing the M22 alone with the headset not connected to GE if buzz sound still appear

then maybe the problem is on it.

hope my suggestion helps, thanks for using Fixya!

    hi,

the M22 amplifier is sensitive to noise, in your status right now ---the buzzing sound

it means it is not compatible right now with your set up.

my alternative is a regulated power supply for it, radio shack maybe has it

keep it away from fluorescent lamp it also affects the mic input of the M22

the headset can be directly connected to the GE it has the same components inside it, i mean without the M22 amplifier, only the terminal is different

if you intend to use the M22 with the headset i emphasize on the pinning

    pinning means the connector

    it has 4 terminals
    1) mic in +
    2)mic in -
    3) speaker +
    4) speaker -

the present configuration of M22 may not be compatible right now, my advice is to change the configuration / mismatch

we have to match the pinning of the phone to the M22 , no problem with the headset

and how do we do it?

that would be the next question

    the answer is here

the 4 wires consist of two main components

the mic + being easy to find supplies for about / maximum of 6v for mic to operate
this terminal may possibly the cause of your problem, having a dc voltage
this terminal should go to the output of your M22

the mic - is the ground side of the mic and should be connected to the ground side of M22

GE out + this terminal should be connected to the M22 input terminal

GE out - this terminal should be connected to the M22 input terminal or left open

that point is where the problem arise the proper matching of the unit

    add the electrical interference

    add the power supply rectification

important is the pinning to be correct

the power supply later if the unit is already working.

one possible combination is 3 wires the last one is disconnected means 3 of 4 wires will be used to match the two units instead of four

i just suggested these to have the perfect matching for your GE phone and M22, sometimes its tricky to connect something that is not perfectly match

i can suggest more matching technique if direct connection will not work

i used to connect my phone out to my radio years ago, for my phone patch .don't worry about it, you can even do it wireless.

"however, I am confused because I
cannot connect my H261 to my GE phone because it is not made that way,
the tip will only connect to the phone jack and not the headset jack
because it is only a small hole, it will only go into the M22 amplifier. "

for that part surely if you will look physically on the outside due to the connectors it wont , but inside the mic the headpiece is almost the same, the only difference is the case and the connector at the end.

"Am I to continue using the same two AC/DC adapters I mentioned earlier
and use them with the regulated power supply from Radio Shack? "

this part is the second option in case there are still slight problems

"I do not see 4 terminals in regard to pinning and where is the connectors on the M22 Amplifier and telephone, please simply?"

    here is the terminal

    hi,

have you tried adjusting the " Telephone Compatibility Switch" ? i have pictures on top with a circle.

does it work?, or your unit doesn't have it, i believe there is., try to look for it.

there are some models that can use headphones direct .in your case maybe none?

    if none, conversion might help

There are known issues with many model phones and this amplifier, I am sure that is what you are experiencing. You may want to just get a $15 replacement phone from somewhere like ebay to use as a headset only phone. You can give plantronics a call at (800) 544-4660 to verify what model phone would be compatible, and to see if there is any way to troubleshoot your current setup. It should be extremely straightforward so I doubt you are setting it up incorrectly.

Also, you may want to try to use your amplifier and headset with a friend's phone to make sure that the actual amplifier or headset is not the culprit (could be defective, or a short in the wire.

Hope this helps!

Well there you go, it sounds like you are experiencing one of those "prblematic" moments with your GE phone. There arent many phones that will have a problem with your setup, you just happen to have one of the rare ones.

Sorry about that, it sounds like you've tried everything, not sure if there is anything else we can do.

Please let me know what you think

    Thanks

    Tim

The buzzing is a result of a bad ground cause feedback ie the buzzing. Go to your local Radio Shack they should be able to provide a solution for this. Or you could go Old School and find a corded desk phone at a thrift store hat is powered be the phone cord to rid yourself of the buzzing Good Luck To You

I have Nortel T7316E phones and Plantronics HW251N headsets. Is there a way to increase the volume for the mic so that the caller can hear us better?

The A10 direct connect cord used on the Nortel T7316E primarily will increase the speaker volume. If the problem is that your microphone is too low, you will need to use an amplifier, the M22. Remember that the amplifier needs to be connected through the HANDSET jack not the headset jack. Here is the link for the Plantronics M22.

Hi there - my machine jsut stopped working and now i have no sound at all

M22 amplifier - There are a couple of things to check. First, make sure it has fresh batteries and they're installed correctly. Second, make sure the configuration slide (located next to the battery compartment) is set correctly, normally on #5. Also, make sure the cables are all connected properly and make sure the problem is not the headset. There are some good pointers and reminders on this website: M22 Beginner's Guide

I recently purchased a plantronics h171 headset for my snom 320 phone. I can hear fine but no one can hear me

This is a common problem if you are using a 2.5mm patch cable instead of the Vista M22 amplifier. Phones do not put out enough power to the 2.5mm jack. If you are using the Vista M22 amplifier make sure the batteries are fresh and installed correctly. Also sometimes a voice tube can become clogged with debris which can restrict the airflow and people will not be able to hear you.

One of the specifications for this product is that the microphone has volume controls on it. Try increasing your volume using those controls. They should be located on the receiver. If that doesn't solve the problem, you stated in your request that it was hooked up to your corded phone. Try increasing the volume on your phone and make sure all wired connections on the phone are hooked in properly and are properly secured in their terminals/ports. If that fails, try your amplifier. There could be a wire shortage or bad connection internally within the headset and microphone. I hope increasing the volume or correcting your wire connections will solve your problem. How do i connect it to my phone

If your phone allows you to disconnect your handset on the base system, then do so and plug your amplifier in the socket that the handset was plugged into. If your handset will not allow you to disconnect the cabel from it, you may need to purchase a new handset, perhaps at Radioshack, this will depend on your area.

I am trying to use a plantronics headset system and cannot get a dial tone. Is this Norstar phone compatible?

You don't say what headset it is, but I will to help you.

If this is a Plantronics corded "H" series headset you will need to use an A10 adapter cord, which plugs into the headset jack on the phone.

If this is what you are using and you don't hear anything then you need to probably need to switch to an M22 amplifier box, which is then plugged into the jack where the telephone handset was plugged in.

If you are using a wireless headset it plugs into the handset jack where the handset cord was plugged into.
