I need help in replacing the starter rope on String Trimmer

My starter rope snapped and I purchased a replacement. After removing the housing to replace the rope the cap holding the spring popped out. How can I remount the spring unit and starter rope correctly? It's a Homelite 25cc String Trimmer, Trim 'n Edge model.

How do i replace the starter rope on RY30570

Remove screws holding front and back plastic casing. Remove trimmer shaft with casing. Watch out for spring when you remove the string reel. Best thing is to push the knot out of handel and either cut it or untie it to release all tension on the spring before removing the string reel. The rest is kind of learn as you go.

Need to relace starter rope

Remove the cover from the side of the blower that contains the pull start. This usually involves removing the self-tapping screws that join the two halves of the blower housing together.

  • Remove the broken rope from the starter pulley. Usually the rope is attached to the pulley with a simple overhand knot; just grab the knot and pull the rope back through the hole in the pulley. Sometimes the rope is attached to the pulley with a staple or some other fastener, which you'll have to remove first.
  • 3 Remove the handle from the replacement rope, if it's already attached.
  • 4 Thread the end of the rope opposite the handle through the hole in the starter pulley, working from the inside of the pulley (the side facing in toward the engine).
  • 5 Fasten the rope to the pulley. If it attaches with a knot, simply tie an overhand knot, pull it tight and trim off any excess rope sticking out of the knot. If it attaches with a fastener, replace the fastener.
  • 6 Wrap the rope counterclockwise around the pulley until the pulley is full; this usually involves one or two wraps.
  • 7 Thread the free end of the rope through the hole in the blower housing.
  • 8 Replace the blower housing and screw it in place.
  • 9 Trim off excess rope, leaving about 6 inches of rope protruding from the blower housing.
  • 10 Attach the handle to the starter rope. This typically involves threading the rope through one or two holes in the handle and securing with an overhand knot.

Ryobi string trimmer RY34420 has a non retracting pull cord. How do I fix it?

The starter assembly is between the motor and boom so you have to remove the boom from the motor housing. Usually one nut & bolt at the nose of the starter housing. There may be another lock bolt. You shouldn't have to remove the throttle cable and leads but it depends on how tight the factory installed them. Remove the starter housing. If you're real lucky all you have to do is pull some starter rope up past the pulley and wind the pulley in the direction the rope pulls back into the housing. You have to pull the rope around the pulley as you wind it. If the spring catches and builds tension you're good, wind it four or five times or enough to fully pull the rope back in. If the spring doesn't catch or releases every two or three turns it has to be replaced. You may have to replace the spring and container (PN638033001) and/or the easy start assembly (PN310022001).

Homelite 25cc model UT20002A. How to repalce starter string?

Remove the shaft assembly at the motor, there should be one or two screws on the boom clamp. Remove the four screws holding the starter housing on. Inside the front of the housing is an air baffle you don't have to remove and the starter pulley. Remove it carefully, you don't want the spring to come out of its container. Remove any vestiges of the old starter rope and install the new one with no more than three or four windings depending on the thickness of the rope you bought. Install the pulley in the housing with the rope through the slot in the pulley so you can wind it a couple times to catch the spring and start the tension. It should be tight enough to just pull the string back into the housing. Feed the rope through the hole in the housing then through the t-handle and tie a knot so it won't pull back through the handle. Put the housing on the motor, no screws yet, and pull the rope out to make sure nothing is binding and the rope retracts fully into the housing. If it's too tight use the slot in the pulley to take one winding out. If the t-handle dangles, add a turn to the pulley. Reassemble housing and boom and you're ready to go.

    Pull starter

easiest thing is to take it off machine-that is the housing holding the string/handle-usually 4 screws-very easy(they may be allen wrench screws)and take it to a local lawn place and ask them if they rebuild them or if its cheaper to maybe just buy/order the entire thing if they have it/can order. It would probably cost 20.00 tops for the new housing with string and handle ready to go.Hope this helps

Replace pull cord Big Wheeled weed EaterString

First, remove the recoil assembly but dont disassemble!
You'll need about 3 1/2 ft. of the same size rope. Tie a knot into one end of the rope. While holding the pulley in place observe the direction the pulley moves when rope is pulled. Release pulley and cut and remove old rope. Continue winding pulley in direction rope would pull it. Do no wind too tight. Line up holes in recoil housing and pulley then push rope through pulley and out housing. Tie on handle and install recall in reverse order.
