I have Bose Lifestyle 38 Error code 801. Anyone have the answer. Please share the fix at blueocean101@yahoo.com. 10000 thanks!

Same problem on my Lifestyle 38. Suspect the hard drive is filling up.

Sometimes loose sound when changing to TV. Pulling the power from the display unit causes a reboot, and fixes the problem.

i have the same problem please help me.....

sane same.... error code 802 and my ls48 is 2 days old

  • Anonymous May 25, 2008

well it looks like my lifestyle 38 hdd is shagged too. failed 802 call bose came up and some nasty noises came from it :(

  • iMark May 27, 2008

801 and 802 errors seem to refer to the hard drive. My Lifestyle 48 was making those shrieking noises associated with a dying hard drive. It finally gave an 801 error. I removed the HD and the noise stopped. The unit then displayed 801 and 802 errors but works fine otherwise. I can't wait to see what Bose wants for a hard drive ;)

  • Gallahad May 28, 2008

Same exact problem...just happened about 3 weeks ago...the shrieking noise did permanent damage to my cat, I think...This system performed flawlessly since I purchased in 2005.  Disappointing that only 3 years later, from what it looks like from the other postings here, that it's likely a HD collapse.  The best thing about this system was the storage capacity.  My entire Jazz collection is toast!

801 AND 802 PROBLEM HARD DRIVE FAILED

WELL I CAN SEE THAT IT WILL BE A LOOSING BATTLE FROM READING ON SUGGUESTED REPAIRS

SOUNDS LIKE BOSE KNOWS ABOUT THIS DEFECT IN THEIR PRODUCT AND HOPE NO ONE CATCHES ON AND KEEPS BUYING THERE PRODUCT

AFTER PAYING $4000.00 FOR THIS LIFESTYLE 48 YOU WOULD THINK BOSE WOULD REPLACE THE DRIVE FREE OF BHARGE BUT THEY WONT

THEY KNEW BY WRITING THEIR FLIMSY ONE YEAR WARRANTY A $4000.00 SHOULD HAVE A FIVE AND NOT ONE YEAR IF THEY ARE SO SURE ABOUT THERE PRODUCT LET THEM PUT THERE MONEY WHERE THERE MOUTH IS

WE SHOULD DO A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST BOSE FOR SELLING WHAT THEY KNEW AS A DEFECTIVE HARD DRIVE I WONDER HOW MANY IN AMERICA ALONE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM

  • Boat360 Nov 23, 2008

my unit is 1.5 years old .Just installed it in my new house 3 days ago so new out of the box it has only run 3 days the hard drive sounds like it is going to explode 801&802 error .My one year is up .So more money

  • scrabble55 Dec 11, 2008

my unit just started making a horrible noise tonight. bose tech support is closed. i've had my system since 2004. i can't believe it! i waited over a year before buying finally buying it for this very reason. for the price they should guarantee their products. at least it sounds like a pretty easy fix...

  • Gallahad Feb 07, 2009

I have had the same problem and reported it and listed with FixYa since Spring of 08.  I lost a treasured, and for me, a couple of irreplaceable Jazz tracks.  It's so very disappointing as I researched the product heavily before my purchase, bought from a respected retailer, and now this nonsense.  I have the most expensive radio receiver on the block, for sure.

When being in contact with BOSE support i got the message that "FAILED 802 Call Bose" refers to issues with the harddisk not being identified.
In my case I had to send the unit to BOSE support. I replaced the existing disk with an identical unformated one but some more actions are needed. The question is what .......

Unplug the Media Center Power from the rear of the media center. Wait for 20 seconds. Plug the power back in. Allow the system 5-10 minutes to re-initialize before using.

I tried replacing the hard drive with a similar unit (almost identical). It did not work properly and reported 801 errors. Obviously I could not format or initialize it with the 'Bose' special stuff. I gave in and sent the unit to Bose. for $165 plus tax they refurbished the whole unit (the only option they offered me). More expensive than the drive would have cost, but not terrible.

I had the same problem Lifestyle 38. After an evening of listening I shut system down and got the 802 error message. I tried the "unplug power" for a couple of minutes and replugged it in. Viola it worked, error message gone. I don't know if I was just lucky or the hard drive is on the way out.

Same problem. Bose support was great. Said it was a failed hard drive. Cost was about $200, and included a complete refurbish of the entire unit (including subwoofer/amp). Sent me shipping boxes. I dropped the unit off at the local Bose depot, and it was shipped back about a week later. Now the re-loading begins.

I have had this problem several times with my clients and apparently it is caused by trying to store to many cds at one time bose recomend no more than 5 cds a day. the only way to solve it is a compleat reset or new hd.

The problem exist because of the latest umusic software update disk. Since the release in January, some of these disks were corrupt. As a result, you get the error message 801 or 802 call bose. if you explain to the bose technical reps that the problem occurred right after you loaded the latest software release, they may consider swapping out the media center for free. worked for me.

Hi,

You may have dirty lens. You can clean it using CD lens cleaner or clean it manually.
If no joy, your optical lens may defective and need replacement.

Other possiblity cause is the mechanism is out of service.

Please ensure that you have turned on the Accoustimass module, this can cause communication errors when calibrating. Also check that all connections are correctly plugged in as if one is not quite sat right this may give the error, just try unplugging them and plug them back in.

Bose lifestyle fault code 802 hi there- i have a bose lifestyle 48 and on display it reads format unsupported when i try to listen to cd's gut not on dvd's - in addition i am unable to store music into the...

Unfortunately, an 802 error is bad. That means hard drive (HDD) failure. This can happen to any hard disc drive, and there's no way to predict it and no way to fix it from home.
If you even try to troubleshoot it (reset etc), you could loose more data (music you've already stored to the system). If you try to access 'stored' music- the error will continue. Also, every time you turn the system off, it checks your HDD, and will probably cause the 802 or 801 errors to display again.
The "Format Unsupported" message may be related, but usually temporary. The 802 (and also 801) errors mean irreversible HDD damage so it doesn't matter.
Call Bose tech support immediately.. They can repair it for $165 and give a new 1 year warranty. And if it's already under warranty they will repair for free. In either case they will replace your HDD with a new one, and transfer any salvaged music files from your existing drive to the new drive.

Bose Lifestyle 48 Error code 801

We had this problem. I called Bose, and they reported that the 801 error is a hard drive problem. The unit started squealing while I was on the phone to support, and the guy heard it. Said the hard drive was failing.

$200 to ship the unit to Bose to replace the drive. Wish they had a secret warantee for what seems like a common problem.
