Question about Webroot Spy Sweeper (spysweeper) for PC

1 Answer

I have a Windows Vista laptop running webroot. I've had the program for almost a year now, and it's telling me that the software is on, but it is reporting to the security center in a format that is no longer supported. I've tried to download an update, but I get some kind of error message.

Download and install Revo Uninstaller here:

When you run this prgram, it will show you all installed programs you have and let you uninstall them better than doing it from the control panel.

Go to a better anti-virus program that is free. Go to www.filehippo.com and dowload Avast. When you install it you can register it as a free version for a year and then re-register it as a free version next year. Avast works very well with the Windows Firewall and it is easily the best anti-virus out there.

These days, you must have a good security system on your PC; get Avast or whatever else you like at
FileHippo, but do not delay. Tell you Mom about Avast *** well; it is better than Webroot in my opinion.

Spy Sweeper purchased in July, 2009 will not work with Windows 7.

Ms Mason,

With Windows 7 there comes an improved Compatibility feature which allows you to run programs apparently not functional in Windows 7. In order to do this, please install the program as usual, making sure to tell the installation program to install a desktop icon. When it is finished, right click on the icon and select properties. The next window has a tab called compatibility. Click this tab and select Run program in... and select Windows Vista or Windows XP SP3 (either should work). I would also set it to run as administrator. See graphic below.

If the program wont install at all, than explore the CD and do the same process with the "setup.exe" program on the CD.

Good Luck,

Webroot 6.1 will not load on Windows 7

Are you running another antivirus program at the same time?

this will cause it to hang, maybe reinstall the program (repair) and see if this helps

Webroot antivirus won't run.

I'd uninstall and go with something like Avira Antivirus
I haven't had ANY issues running this program. All I deal with is the occasional pop up when new definitions are installed. For what it can do, I think it's the best out there for it's price range...free.
If you wish to stick with Webroot...it sounds like it's conflicting with other program/s. Make sure your program is compatible with your OS. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if it were Vista.

Webroot Firewall Stops working (Windows Vista)

Hi there!

Try re-installing the software. Also, there maybe registry or windows related problems but there's a solution to that: run TUNEUP UTILITIES and run a full system check on your computer.

Also, make sure your activation key or registration has not expired.

Hope this helps

Per Webroot spysweeper need to find option program & update definitions?

To open Webroot, double click on the icon on your desktop or find it in the start menu. If it is the first time you are running the program, it will prompt automatically to update the definition file. However if it not the first time, once the program has opened click on "Home" on the left hand side of the open window. There should be two options-check for program updates or check for definition updates. Simply click on check for definition updates and you should be good to go :)
