Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

Air conditioner does not work. I turn it on and it tries to start, will not start, turns off. When I turn the thermostat off you can hear a click back by the A/C unit. This is on an 03 Weekend Warrior SLC3905 trailer.

Yes there is a Hum noise at first, Gen. draws down. Then Gen. goes back and Hum stops. Fan does not come on. The breakers are not triped, but I can check voltage at them.
    Thanks for your help.

Will fan mode work at all? Breaker is on? Any "hum" noise?

The click you hear is possibly the contactor switch on the unit. This swith is activated by the thermostat which in turn sends voltage to the compressor. First things first, You need to check the contactor swith to insure you are getting power from the switch on.. Activate the thermostat the contactor will activate you shoud get the same voltage reading from l-1 and l-2 as you get from the t-1 t-2 sides of the contactor. if these readings carry the same volts then your problem is towards the compressor. Next item to check is the capacitor. this is a round or oval shaped metal cylinder that has several wires going to it, Some of these capacitors are dual, in other words they run both compressor and condensator fan motor in one unit sometimes each peice , compressor, fan motor, has a seperate capacitors If it is a dual capacitor the will be 4 or more wires going to it. since these aren't as costly I would recommend that you replace the capacitor and see if that has cured your problem., If it hasn't then you are possibly looking at a bad compressor and an a/c tech would need to be called to check that for you. Good Luck

Hi,
The compressor is not always starting...sometimes it tries but does not start...
It could be a capacitor and relay problem... or the compressor could be going bad...
Change the capacitor and start relay first and then see if that gets it going...

Furnance not heating

Make sure that the thermostat is set for the proper medium that you are using being gas or electric. Inside the cover of the thermostat should be a setting for either eletrical heat or gas heat. Set this switch for what your system is G for gas or E for eletric. This may solve your problem. Good Luck hope this helped you some

Duo Therm Thermostat

Hi there

I think this is a setting on your air conditioner, the air conditioner will turn off when the room is at the correct temperature and when the room starts to warm up, the air conditioner will turn back on. (You need to find the settings and change them from auto-adjust to manual-adjust)

My air conditioner doesn't turn on, what do I look for?

If your room air conditioner doesn't go on at all: 1) Check the power source first: be sure it's plugged in and turned on. 2) Then check the outlet by unplugging the air conditioner and plugging in a light that works (only for standard-voltage models--do not plug a light into a 220/240-volt receptacle!). 3) If the light doesn't go on, the circuit has probably overloaded--check the electric panel or fuse box and reset the breaker or replace the fuse. 4) If the light works, it's likely that the air conditioner's switch is faulty or the thermostat needs adjustment or repair. 5) Be sure the thermostat is set to "cool" and below room temperature. 6) Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for thermostat repair. If adjusting or repairing the thermostat doesn't solve the problem, unplug the unit and call an air conditioning technician.
