Dead Sidewinder2 Force Feedback

Accidently spilled water on my Sidewinder 2 FF last week. It started twitching a few times here and there, but I had it unplugged imediately. Someone had told me to just let it sit and dry. Well I let it dry for a week and all I get is the light flashing, which I can only surmise there is no power working. I took it apart tonight to see about this "fuse" people are talking about. I don't see anything to actually take out fuse wise, nor does anything look damaged. I took off the controll board and I do see a little white residue around the main cpu chip on the board and a little on a few other things.
Is my control board fried?
If so, does anyone know where to get a new one or am I stuck having to buy another SWFF2?
Or am I looking at the power board incorrectly?

Ok, electronics store said the fuse was good, so bought the contact cleaner which cleared everything perfectly off.
But the force feedback is still not working.
When I put my ear close to the stick I hear what sounds to be a wind-up ticking sound. Now I'm confused.

OK please don't underrate me for telling you the truth your controller is dead.. there is no magic word or driver or can of cleaner you can use to bring it back. that white residue around the main CPU is most likely caused from corrosion in other words water has shorted it out. but not all is lost because I lost mine the same way you did and I refused to give up on it. to be honest I was just too cheap to go buy another so I turned to ebay. I purchased a used one there for a total of $10.00 that had missing buttons and a busted handle I purchased it immediately and when I got it in I took my handle and buttons and placed them on the controller from ebay. It worked perfectly and I could not have been more happy. if this sounds like something you can do you can fix it for next to nothing.... I hope this has been of some help

You may be able to salvage it by going to an electronics store and purchasing some contact cleaner.

Open up the controller and spray the contact cleaner over any electronic and metal parts.

It may be a little late now since it's been sitting for a week but then again you may get lucky.

hey m8,

stumbled over your post while searching for sullotions for the same kind of problems.
I also have a perfectly working M$ sidewinder FF pro, trying to get it to work WITH force feedback.
However I am affraid there is no way to do this. From what I read is the gameport to slow to keep up with nowaday PC speeds :(

I got the joystick working up to windows XP (in XP it lost its FF tho and slowed down gameplay sometimes. Not sure if that was caused by the joystick or the game itself running in some compatibility mode). I was using the gameport from an old soundblaster live! by the way.

I did find something that may be usefull for you tho. Check the link below:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprohardware/thread/20fa2ccd-061b-4864-abbd-96d1a9871a2f

I havent tested this yet myself and it will require a creative soundcard but I think it will have a better chance of working that using some converter from gameport to USB.

No force feedback only with Flight Sim. 2004

O-the sweet feel of a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback lets see if I can be of some help. there could be any number of things going on but I'm going to give this a try. have you checked the settings in Flight Simulator 2004 seems to me that I remember a check box that said disable force feedback make sure that is unchecked. also in the settings for your controller there is a box that says enable force feedback make sure that is checked. then make sure if you are using a firewall like zone alarm you are in gaming mode because this used to give me major headaches with my system to the point I had to detach from the internet and shut down my firewall to play my games. if this doesn't work you may have to reinstall the drivers for the sidewinder this is the last easy option and it should repair any broke links and reset itself into your system. Please let me know how this helped if you need more Ideas just contact me.

There are two x sensor holes in the grip , one top one bottom, they control the force feed back gimbals in the base you need from time to time make sure they are clear just spray them with some alcohol base solution and give them i light probe with a tooth pick to make sure there is no gunk blocking up the holes .

Good luck.
