Voire 46" plasma tv- best color settings, to much white

The proper way to set flat screen tv's is opposite of old school CRT tv. First, find a movie with dark scenes and pause on a really dark part. Now set brightness only high enough to see some detail - no more. then go to a really bright scene and set contrast just high enough for good brightness. You may need to go back and forth a few times to get good setting.

I have the exact think happening on my Samsung LN46A530 and it has just been 2 years since I bought it. There better be a cheap fix for this because a $2,000 product has to last a lot longer than 2 years.

The Contrast and Brightness on tv appears to be dark.

If this is a CRT-based TV and it's been played most of the time, you may have a bad picture tube, especially if strong red colors bleed to the right. CRT's dim with use, unlike LCD or plasma. But it could also be trouble in the video circuits - none of this falls into the DIY category, unfortunately. High voltage involved, unless you're comfortable around it and want to try turning up the screen controls inside the TV. If you do, let me know - but "no response at all" from the external adjustments points to a more serious problem.

PS2 Picture Problem

Hi MG86,

Most PS2 games are dark and auto brightness controls will casue your LCD tv to brighten up automatically in response the dark video coming from PS2 games. I suggest you get into the menu settings of your TV and find a setting that will shut off the auto picture controls.

Picture adjustment questions

*The brightness control setting determines how bright your picture will be. *The contrast control sets the gain of the video circuit. This determines the difference between dark and light scenes. Low contrast settings make the picture "hazy". High contrast settings make the picture more distinction between dark and light scenes. *The sharpness control determine the frequency response of the video circiut. High sharpness settings give better resolution but also shows more noise in your picture. Lower sharpness settings smoothe out the picture removing noise but also fine detail. It needs to be set for the best all around picture. *Picture Enhancement is pre-set adjustments which give you different picture qualities. You just select the one you like. Stargazer

Tv is too dark

You didn't say how old your TV is. If it's very old the picture tube could be weak. IF not then there is a screen adjustment on the flyback transformer that you might try to adjust. Sometimes you can access this adjustment without removing the back cover. If you see an adjustment through a hole in the back of the cabinet marked "SCREEN" then you might try turning this control clockwise while watching the picture in a mirror. Only a slight adjustment may be needed. Don't make it too bright or the set may shut down or have small white (retrace) lines in the picture. If you have a projection TV then dust on the three picture tube lenses will darken the picture. These are general statements that apply to different TV's. I assumed that this is a direct view 32 in. Dark picture (HELP)

Open up the back of the set but be very carefull. Notice a large black block with a large red wire that runs up to the picture tube. on one side of that large block where the thick red wire is comming out of are two controls, one should be marked focus or F and one should be marked screen or S. With the set operating normally and not touching anything else, slowly turn the control marked screen or S clockwish till the picture gets bright enough. If you go too bright the set will shut down or you see small thin white lines so back down on the control. then touch up the focus and your good to go. good Luck.
