The black hole is a crankcase vacume tube not a big deal there but i would check the battery connections and the battery. if you use gas directly in the carb to start it doesent take more than a tea spoon to do it you will flood the engine and drain you battery just trying to start it.

Sat unused for 3years,new battery, oil change spark plug, air filter, started right up,battery some how died after trying to restart within 15 min.any ideas what might be happening

once the motor starts it would only draw from the battery for electric deck clutch if you have one or headlights if you have any. There will be a black wire coming out from under the flywheel, in that wire there will be a bumb half again bigger then wire only about 3/4 inch long, it is a diode covered with heat shrink , this allows for the electricity to come out of the charging system into the battery but not back the other way. So if the diode has gone bad and allowing the current to go both directions this might be your problem. charge your battery, start your mower, you will need a cheap ohm meter $10, with the tractor running full throttle touch the red test lead to positive + and black to neg, meter set at dc current it should read 13 to 15 volts when engine is shut off it should be 12+ volt if it is under that say 11 volt you have a draw some where,

How could gas be entering the crankcase of my Husqvarna 48" riding lawn mower?

Sounds like you have a hole 'burnt' in the piston top allowing fuel combustion mixture (normally compressed above the piston) getting down into the crankase or that the piston rings are shot allowing the same thing.
As the piston is continuously moving, the reverse happens giving oil at the intake or carb.

. Looks like a strip down, good inspection and rebuild of engine required .

My Yardman 13.5 hp Briggs rider revs up and sputters, revs up and sputters.

Does this engine have overhead valves. If yes they need to be checked for proper valve clearance. The engine must be cold to check this.

After changing a blade on my viking mower, it no longer starts, is there oil in the air filter? how do i fix this ? Thanks

It sounds like you tilted the mower in the wrong directions when changing the blade. If you tilt it with the spark plug pointing down insead of up, this alows the oil in the crankcase to enter the head and then it bleeds past the intake valve and or exhaust valve where oil then gets in the carb./ air filter or muffler. Pull the spark plug out and inspect, it may be covered with oil killing the fire. Check your oil level, replace your air filter, try to start. It may smoke real bad for awhile. It should clear up after getting hot and burning it out of the muffler.

I have water leaking on the passenger floor board when it rains and I can't find were it's coming from.

Check the seal around your interior air filter. The seal can come off at one corner and allow water to run down the firewall and into the passenger side.

Floods while mowing-remove air filter -gas running out air intake.

First, go outside and stand next to the lawn mower. Then as hard as you can kick it. Keep kicking it until you feel better. Now go down to your local Sears and tell them that you need a new lawn mower and watch all of those guys scramble to make the sale.
Happy Shopping.
