Question about Audio Players & Recorders

2 Answers

I have a Harmon Kardon HK3480 reciever amplifier with A and B speaker selector. I have a Niles SSVC6 speaker selector with volume controls and a Quest speaker selector QSL 6.1 (no volume controls) It runs a KEF Soundlight System in the kitchen and 3 pairs of speakers in seperate rooms downstairs. I have a single in wall speaker in the foyer with a wall volume control and 5 single in wall speakers with seperate volume controls in the bedrooms upstairs. The system became unexpectedly disonnected and was working fine up to that point. I need to know how to connect the Quest speaker selector back into the Niles selector and my amp. All the downstairs speakers are connected to the Niles selector, and the foyer and upstairs speakers were all connected to the Quest selector. I need to know fairly precisely as I am no electronics wizard how to connect this all back up. Mainly the "B" speakers and the Quest selector. Thanks for your help Pat

    Thanks for your reply.

It is definitely just a connection issue. The system was installed fairly recently by a professional installer and the wiring is all new and was continuity tested. I have all the downstairs system working just fine. It is all connected to the Niles selector My problem is how to connect the Quest speaker selector into the Niles speaker selector so that I get power to the speakers on the Quest speaker selector. The Quest speaker selector has terminals for 6 pairs of speakers and then it has a block off to the side with four terminal connections L and R and it is labeled INPUT. I need to know what to connect to those input terminals and if anything has to be connected from the Quest speaker selector to the "B" inputs of my amp. The upstairs speakers are all quite small speakers and the sound up there is just for adequate sound and the downstairs speakers that are connected directly to the Niles selector are the ones I use to seriously listen to music.

The fellow who installed the system is out of town for three weeks, otherwise I would just have him back to re-connect. Unfortunately that is pretty far off time-wise.

If I am not giving you enough info, please let me know and I will give it to you.

    Thanks

    Pat

    start with 2 wires

connect lets say + and - of B to Quest input L + and -

    another 2 wires

connect it to Quest out + and - to Niles input + and - terminals

the other 2 will be later if 2 wire works

Http://www.retrevo.com/samples/Niles-manuals.html click this link and get the manual for niles connections.also you will have to check the connection wires with continuity tester to check out that wires are not having cut or short in between.this is must to check out whether its a connection issue or a short circuit issue. the continuity tester will be available at any local electronics shop at $5. if not familiar with checking with wires a local electric engineer is advisable. Please do rate the solution. Thank you for using fixya.keep updated. thanks

Harmon kardon hk3270 shuts off after only being on about 10 sec

Disconnect speakers and wires. Bad wiring or defective speakers may be loading the amp down and causing the protection circuits inside to disconnect (no sound). If the HK is heating up (beyond what you perceive as normal) with no wires or speakers connected then you have a problem requiring expert repair.

Harmon Kardon AVR 235 no sound

Ensure that your speakers are connected to the terminals that you have your speaker selector switch turned to.
Then check that you have your device, whether it be a CD or DVD player, or turntable, plugged into the correct input and that you also have the correct input selected on the receiver.

I wish to control volume on 4 pairs of speaks at 4 different locations please

What you will need is an autoformer based speaker selector with volume control for 4 speaker pairs. This will take the left and right speaker wire out from your amplifier and distribute it to 4 pairs of speakers. Each pair of speakers gets it own volume control so you can control each room sound independently. It will also do speaker impedance matching so that your amplifier is not being over driven by the 4 pairs of speakers. The manual for the product you purchase will aid you in the proper settings of the auto former control. You can find this product from companies like Russound or Niles.

Harmon kardon hk695-01,13 - Intermittent "gargling" noise

the noise is sometimes caused by dust in the volume control.
i would suggest blowing the dust out around the volume control if there is a manual control on the unit. use a small can of compressed air.. buy it at local walmart or computer store.

I have a relatively new (less than 3 months old) Harmon Kardon Receiver HK3490. It turns on but immediately turns off. You can hear a clicking sound like a breaker is disengaging. The problem started...

It is a relay clicking. You will need to obtain a schematic to troubleshoot this but they are available online. The protection circuits have been degraded from the short circuit but it is still alive and the discrete components are easy to replace. I used to use Sam's Fotofax but googling your HK model will get you alot of results. Harmon Kardon is a great brand and definitely worth fixing. ~Steve Medley
