I have an HP a420n desktop computer. The power will not come on at all. No fans start, no noises...nothing. The green light in the back of the computer still comes on but thats it. I have checked the power cord, the connections..everything. I am at a loss now.

Your next step is reseat the components inside the case. memory and video card especially. If you have a known good power supply, try that next. Check your power button, both switch and cable.

That is an indication that there is power to the motherboard. It normal but does not mean all is well with the PC. If your PC works fine, then there is nothing to worry.
On the back of the Power Supply there should be a Green LED, When you power it on if it is flashing, this means that the Power Supply is dead and you need to replace it.
the sops power sypply is defect a few capacitors are not working you need to replace the whole power supply of the PC. easy to find in pc store.

Please try to remove all the connections from your computer and also connections inside the motherboard, the power cord for your hard drives and also the power cord from the power supply to your motherboard.After that, remove the memory and clean the pin by using an eraser of the pencil. And then insert again the memory stick and connect all the connections from the power supply to motherboard and everything. Lastly reset your bios and put it back to normal again. Is the computer still its power ? if the pc has its power then try to switch on without the memory. if the system beeps means that the mainboard and processor is good. However, if the pc has no power at all then first check the power supply.tell me what happen i give you more troubleshooting.
Is the pc has blinking power in it. or do your hear any beeping sounds? but anyway you can do check your PC. unplug the pc and open the system. remove and clean the memory and insert it again. and fix all connection inside the pc maybe some cable lessen. after that test the pc. and then tell me what happen i will give you more solution in it. melnavz
