Windows XP in Power Save Mode with blank screen

Hi. I just switched from a PC to a MAC. I have several photos on my PC that I'm trying to copy onto CDs so I can put them on my MAC. My problem is, when I hooked my PC back up, it starts just fine but my monitor is in Power Save Mode. I've tried restarting the computer, tried rebooting with F8, and unplugging it. What else can I try to get this out of Power Save Mode. I can't click on the Start button or anything because the screen in blank. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is your PC a desktop or a laptop? Also, what make and model?

When you attached the monitor to the PC were both turned off?

When you have the monitor connected to the PC and they are both powered on, do you see anything at all on the monitor?

Have your tried a new video cable?

My WD My Passport external Hard Drive ! TB formatted for Mac is not reading my files

A Windows PC computer will not read files on the WD hard drive that has been formatted on a MAC.
The fix.
Copy your photos onto the MAC computer then remove the WD hard drive and connect it to your Windows PC and format the WD hard drive in FAT32 file system.
After formatting has been completed remove the WD hard disk and connect it to the MAC computer. The MAC can read and write to a Windows FAT32 formated hard disk. You can now copy the photos from the MAC to the WD hard disk. When copying is complete, remove the WD hard drive and connect the WD hard drive to your Windows PC and you can now copy the photo from the WD hard disk to your Windows PC.

Reset password for Toshiba L635

Here is a simple way to access Windows XP with Administrator rights and privileges if you have password protected your User account on your Windows XP system and can't remember the password(s) to login. Whenever Windows XP is installed on a system, it creates a default account called "Administrator" and by default this account is not password protected. Therefore, if you bought a brand name computer (such as Dell, HP, Compaq or Sony)or you have installed Windows XP yourself. You should be able to login to the computer through the unprotected.

You can log on as an administrator to assign a new password to your account. To do this, try Method 1.

Method 1: Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch on until you get the Safe Mode Option.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Click through several self-explanatory screens until your reach the familiar 'Welcome' screen.

Note that this welcome screen is limited to 256 colors and 640x480 resolution because the primary graphics will have been set to the Windows Safe Mode software VGA adapter. You will not be able to change this mode even in Display options, while Windows is running in Safe Mode.

Find the icon for the Administrator user. If the default settings of your system haven't been changed, there should be no password for this account.
Continue on to the User Settings control panel. Here you can change any of the other passwords for user on the machine. Make any changes you want.
Reboot your computer. As long as you don't press any keys (e.g. F8) during the boot-up the computer will startup normally.

If Method 1 is unsuccessful try Method 2.

Method 2: Reset Windows Password with SmartKey Windows Password Recovery.

Download SmartKey Windows Password Recovery from SmartKey Password Recovery Official site

Decompress the SmartKey Windows Password Recovery and note that there is an.ISO image file. Burn the image file onto a blank CD with the burner.

Insert the newly created CD into the locked computer and re-boot it from the CD drive.

Boot the PC with the CD Rom and Run the SmartKey, a window pop up with all your account names(if you have several accounts) select one of the accounts that you have forgotten its password to reset it. Just one press, you have removed the password.

congratulations on switching to mac!plug the external hard drive back into the PC, and copy the photo's to the PC, now plug it into your mac and go to applications-utilities-disc utility, the external drive should be listed on the left, click on the erase tab, at the volume format select "ms-dos file system", then click the erase button, this will erase everything on the drive and set it up so your mac can use it (but its ok because you moved all your pictures to the PC) now you can go back to the PC and copy the pictures on the external drive and it will work with your mac.

Hi there

I think it may be a graphics problem. May be the XP drivers are not compatible with your machine graphics card.
You could try this to solve it ...

From the web, possibly on another PC that's got the internet, download the graphics driver for your machine and save it to a USB disk.

Once the set up is complete, try booting into safe mode (press F8 on boot, then select boot into Safe Mode)

Now try running the driver from the USB disk (or copy it to C: drive first then run it).
