After compressing the mmc it shows only 511 mb?

Hi My 2gb microsd memory card only offers 1.87gb of free space when its completely unused. So i fiddled around with it on the pc (windows 95) and when I saw the properties for the mmc there was a small tab labelled compression on the right, so when I compressed the mmc using Drivespace it said it will creat a host drive and my total memory after compression will be 2.7GB but after compression I only found 511mb of total memory! not even my original 1.87GB so i formatted it again and now im back to 1.87 GB.
I'm guessing after compression when i checked the mmc on pc it only showed me the host drive not the main memory?
I'm real confused on how to make this work.
Please help!
Thanks alot for your time.

Hey Philip thanks for your solution but I still am confused about this, is there anyway to use both the master boot and the normal memory together?
I want to be able to make the 1.87 gb to a whole 2 gb usable on my nokia.

Thanks Philip so then whats the point of Disk compression why have it at all if its no use?

So Is there anything else I can do to increase my memory?

All the storage device are being filled by a hidden file which is called master boot record (MBR) Meaning to say that some of the bytes are being allocated to used for such file. Sorry but you don't need to worry about its a normal bytes your got in your memory card.

Please rate me SOLVED If you got the solution.

Best regards,

There is no way to use it, since master boot record are being used with a purpose such as auto detect when you plug to a certain device in order the device will able to recognize your memory.

You can only identify the hidden file or mbr using disk manager which you can see all the hidden file used with your memory.

Disk compression takes advantage of (at least) two characteristics of most files. First
is the fact that most files have a large amount of redundant information, with patterns
that tend to repeat. By using "placeholders" that are smaller than the pattern
they represent, the size of the file can be reduced.

For example, let's take the sentence "In fact, there are many theories to explain
the origin of man.". If you look closely, you will see that the string "
the" (space plus "the") appears in this sentence three times. Compression
software can replace this string with a token, for example "#", and store the
phrase as "In fact,#re are many#ories to explain# origin of man.". Then, they
reverse-translate the "#" back to " the" when the file is read back.
Further, they can replace the string " man" with "$" and reduce the
sentence to "In fact,#re are$y#ories to explain# origin of$.". Just replacing
those two patterns reduces the size of the sentence by 24%, and this is just a simple
example of what full compression algorithms can do, working with a large number of
    patterns and rules.

The other characteristic of many files that disk compression makes use of is the fact
that while each character in a file takes up one byte, most characters don't require the
full byte to store them. Each byte can hold one of 256 different values, but if you have a
text file, there will be very long sequences containing only letters, numbers, and
punctuation. Compression agents use special formulas to pack information like text so that
it makes full use of the 256 values that each byte can hold.

The combination of these two effects results in text files often being compressed by a
factor of 2 to 1 or even 3 to 1. Data files can often be compressed even more: take a look
at some spreadsheet or database files and you will find long sequences of blanks and
zeros, sometimes hundreds or thousands in a row. These files can often be compressed 5 to
    1, 10 to 1 or even more.

Finally, compression is also useful in battling slack. If
you have 1,000 files on a hard disk that uses 16,384 byte clusters, and each of these
files is 500 bytes in size, you are using 16 MB of disk space to store less than 500 KB of
data. The reason is that each file must be allocated a full cluster, and only 500 of the
16,384 bytes actually has any data--the rest is slack (97%!) If you put all of those files
into a compressed file like a ZIP file, not only will they probably be reduced in size
greatly, but the ZIP file will have a maximum of 16,383 bytes of slack by itself,
resulting in a large amount of saved disk space. The advanced features of DriveSpace 3
volume compression will in fact reduce slack even if file compression isn't enabled.

How can i renew or erase my password on SanDisk microSD memory card if it doesn't appear on my computer and phone? it always says "please insert a removable disk to drive (:E) what to do? :(

Good Day, Possibly the MMC is corrupted already. but before you end up buying a new one try looking for this kind of gadget, if you have friends that have this you may just borrow this once10_30_2011_2_52_44_am.jpgThen just plug in your Memory card here, then plug in to a computer, the computer may show no activity, just let it be, the device will blink a few times, then it should be a steady light afterwards. after that the process is done. but if the device does not steady its lights the MMC is broken, or if the process is done but still password is asked.
This process completely resets the MMC so no data can be restored.
Hope this helps you.

My HTC P4350 is running low on free storage space

The system have used nearly the maximum internal memory available: Storage: Total 33.45 MB; In Use: 32.80 MB; Free: 0.66 MB Program.

If you already deleted or moved to memory card your files, that means that the space is taken by installed application/games, or by files left over by previously installed applications.

Save all your files on computer and do a complete reset of the HTC, restoring system to factory settings.

2gb sd card but available only 1gb

Well you have a 1GB SD card, there are roughly 1,073,741,824 bytes max per gig. They vary slightly from USB flash drives it total bytes, but the number should be 1,930 (or something close) MB for the 2Gig SD card, bring it back it may have been mislabeled on the packaging.

Receiving directly to memory card

if you want to recieve data on your phone above the free memory space, first try to transfer your files that was saved on your phone memory to memory card. or on safer way if you want to download data use mmc reader for downloading.
