Hi, Remove the cap on the agitator and locate the 7/16" bolt. Remove the bolt and the agitator will lift out. Seperate the agitator and replace the dog kit inside the upper half of the agitator.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Kenmore Series 80 Washer, Model 20852 - Agitator not turning well, making noise

Hi, If the washer spins properly but the agitator does not work, it could be the dog kit needs replaced. If the washer does not agitate or spin, it is probably the coupler.
Put the washer in wash cycle with no laundry in it and see if the lower prt of the agitator moves. If the agitator moves, try and hold the upper half of the agitator and see if it will only move one direction. The agitaor dog kit is designed to only let the top part of the agiator to grab one way. When they go bad, they can make some noise.
To replace the dog kit in the agitator, remove the top cap/rinse dispenser and the inner bolt cover. Remove the 7/16” bolt and lift the agitator out of the washer. Separate the 2 halfs of the agitator and replace the dog kit inside the upper part of the agitator.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Aggitator does not appear to be working properly (sluggish). Not much movement. What do I need to do? Do I need to replace a part?

You probably have a two piece agitator and most likely the upper agitaor is not ratcheting like it should. To test-- take your hand and put it on top of the agitator (UNIT UNPLUGGED). See if you can rotate it 180 degrees in either direction.
If you can , then you need new agitator dogs

The slow weak function of the augar

the reason for the "weak agitation " is a bad set of agitator dogs. by removing the center fabric softener cup, you can get to and unscrew the center shaft bolt7/16. after removing the bolt, the agitaor will remove and the agitator dogs canbe replaced. part number 80040.youll need to split the agitator top and bottom to insall them . they simply slide into place.

either you have something stuck betwwen the two tubs(ie. a sock. ) preventing the tub from free spinning.or there is a clutch mounted on top of the transmission not engaging, as far the agitator not spinning correctly sounds liek the agitaor dawgs are stripped preventing proper agitaing(bottom of agitator works fine but upper portion free spins both ways without resistance?? correct??
