This is the serial number, but i believe the timer is in the control cover about 4 in behind controls. there will be a 3/8" hole with a little knob with screwdriver slot

Side by side whirpool freezer not cooling how to check for defrost problem

The first signs of a defrost problem in a side by side are the fresh food section warms enough to spoil milk and bread. The back wall of the freezer will show frost buildup like in this photo HERE. If you have the frost building in the back of freezer then behind that wall you will most likely see this HERE Look around the fresh food section door frame for a model number like in the photo below.

If the problem is a frost related problem you will need to know what the model number is to decide just what type of defrost componentes your model will need. Decribe your problem a little better and I will tell you what you need to do from there. Just make sure someone has the model number because your model may have electronic defrost controls or a simple defrost timer. The defrost element could be the only problem. We recently purchased a used side by side Whirpool fridge, model number ED56TNXMQ. It worked great for a few months but now the refrigerator side has stopped cooling. The freezer is still working but...

There is no simple solution. You can get it to work for a while, if you defrost the freezer to clear the ice out, but the bottom line is that something in your defrost circuit is not working correctly. And you will need to test the circuit to find out what isn't working correctly. Here are some links on how to test the different components of your defrost system:

The defrost heater is easy to check with a ohm meter. http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/freezer/check/defrostheater.php If you have continuity, then it is good.

http://www.ehow.com/how_4504020_test-refrigerator-defrost-timer.html is instructions on how to test the timer.

http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/check/defrosthermo.php is instruction on how to test the defrost thermostat.

Hope this helps solve the problem.

Freezer with excess frost despite temperature control at proper setting

This is a defrost issue, consisting of three components: Defrost Timer, Defrost Thermostat, and Defrost Heater. In older whirpool refrigerators it is almost always the Defrost Timer. You can easily replace this your self. Just send your model number and I can direct you through your repair. You can order the part you need at, Reliable Parts

check
defrost heater, defrost thermostat
How to check everything

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

I have a whirpool deep freezer that is not freezing. Can someone please help me with this.

If it is a frost free How to check everything http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control

Whirpool conquest refrigerator-about 8 years old-not cold enough

  • if it does not cool at all then i would suspect the start switch on the side of the compressor or the compressor itself.
  • if the previous repair included tapping into the freon line then it could be the freon leaked out.
  • if the thermostat was bad then the refrigerator fans would not be running,
  • and if the defrost timer was bad (stuck in defrost = not cooling) then the fans would not be running.
  • i don't know of any bad history with this particular model
  • double check the back wall of the freezer to make sure there is no buildup of frost, because this would be a defrost issue.
  • if it is getting a little cold but not cold enough then let me know the temps
