Question about Rockford Fosgate Punch P5002 Car Audio Amplifier

P5002 Problem The owner mistakenly connected the (-) on one stereo output to the (+) on the other stereo output throught a 4 ohm speaker load when attempting to bridge the two outputs. The main battery fuse blew and now there is no output from either stereo connection. The power supply fuses did not blow. Would the problem most likely be the power mosfets? There is no visible evidence of burning or damage. Is there a schematic available for the P5002? Any assistance is appreciated. Thank You

    One channel has no sound and the other one is real disstorted. Also when you change the crossover switch it makes the speaker jump.

The schematic is available from Rockford.

It's possible that the outputs have blown. They generally short from the center leg to the third leg when they fail.

Unless you have experience working with the MEHSA insulators, you may want to buy the entire MEHSA strip from Rockford. You can replace the transistors on the insulators but you have to use a torch to heat the strips.

How to hook speakers up to a realistic mpa-40

The MPA-40 is a mono public address amp. So it has one speaker output. You select the appropriate socket to suite the speaker type. The 4/8/16 Ohm outs are for various tpyes of Hi-Fi speaker. The 70 Volt is used for muzak in shopping centres, restaurants, and waiting rooms.


If you have a pair of 8 ohm Hi-Fi speakers, you can diasy chain the connections and then use the Com and the 16 Ohm connection.

Daisy chain means you take the wires from a pair of speakers. Connect together the wires going to red on one speaker and black on the other. This now leaves you with two wires going to the other red and black terminals on the speakers, but the ends in your hand are not connected to anything yet. Plug the black in to COM. Plug the red in to 16 Ohm.

The sound from the speakers won't be stereo. It will be mono because that's all the amp outputs. But both speakers will work so long as they're functioning units.

If you have two 4 Ohm home theater speakers then you can do the same trick. 4 + 4 makes an 8 Ohm load. Connect the red to the 8 Ohm output.

Don't be tempted to try to connect to multiple terminals. The amp isn't powerful enough to to run more that one speaker chain.

impedances. The "HZ" suffix is intended
to state the amplifier has a relatively high
impedance output and is optimized for no
lower than four-Ohm loads. Are you strapping in Bridged or Stereo Mode? Bridged Mono Operation
Both amplifier channels can be bridged together to make a very powerful single-channel monaural amplifier. Use
extreme caution when operating in the bridged mode; potentially lethal voltage may be present at the output
terminals. To bridge the amplifier, depress the rear panel Bridge switch to the IN position. Direct the signal to channel
A's input and connect the speakers across the hot outputs (the "+" binding posts) of channels A and B. Only channel
A's input attenuator is active while in Bridge Mono mode. Both connectors are strapped together, so either connector
can be used with a patch cable to drive the input of another amplifier.
Unlike the stereo mode, in which one side of each output is at ground, both sides are hot in bridged mode. Channel A's
side is the same polarity as its input with the minimum nominal load impedance being 4 ohms (equivalent to driving
both channels at 2 ohms) in bridged mode. Driving bridged loads of less than 4 ohms will activate the DDT
circuitry, resulting in a loss of power, and may also cause a thermal (overheating) overload.
Therefore, check the impedance of the cabs for each mode. Remember, if you connect two individual speakers in Parallel (+ to + and - to -) you cut the impedance in half. Two 8 ohm speakers in parallel now have a load of 4 ohms. Series connection + to - to + to -, will double the impedance. Two 8 ohm speakers will have a load of 16 ohms.
I have actually taken a two speaker cab with a 4 ohm impedance and opened up the back to re-do the wiring. I rechecked the impedance with a ohm meter. So yes, be careful. Whatever you do, keep the speaker lengths as short as possible. Buy really good speaker wire or if you make your own, go with 10 gauge wire.

I want to connect Max 2500 with 6 JBL Control 28 speakers 175 watts @ 8 ohms each... please suggest what will be the best connection...series or parallel

first is how u want to run the amp itself ....... the MAX2500 can run in mono (bridged) output or stereo ......... though wat u want to watch is the impedance of the load really with the bridged load being no lower than 8 ohms/1500W (there's reasons for this) and the stereo load where u can have either 4 ohms/750W or 8 ohms/500W so how do u want to run this is first the question ..... all 6 on the bridged output or 2 off each channel (though running 3 would make for complicated impedance load) ..... so u'd run 2 in parallel for a 4 ohm load with 300 watt requirement from the amp and u can drive them to 1.5 times their rated RMS figure so a nice 500 watts :)

Nice amplifier. However it is best suited for speakers and not for sub woofers. Connect the plus (+) from speaker output 1 and the minus (-) from speaker output 2. Connect the plus (+) from speaker output 3 and the minus (-) from speaker output 4. Now the amplifier is in bridge mode, which will give you 300 WATT RMS at 4 OHM load. If you are bridging the amplifier to run sub woofers then do not forget to set the X- Over to LPF on the channels that you are planning to bridge. Whatever you do, make sure that the load you are asking the amplifier to play is no lower than 4 OHM. Playing this amplifier in bridged mode lower than 4 OHM is a recipe for trouble.

Peavey XR 8600?? Well it's 600w per ch. at 4 ohms/per side. So, whichever mode you use (Main, or Main/Monitor) you are best to have a 4 ohm total load for each channel of amplification. Ex.--Mains only, one 4ohm speaker per channel will give you 600W per side. Or two 8ohm speakers per channel in parallel, which makes a 4 ohm total load.

Main/Monitor mode---treat it the same way. one 4ohm, or two 8 ohms parallel. per channel.

Your best situation is to have a 4 ohm total load for each channel of amplification to get your 600W.

Parallel-- 8ohms each / 2 speakers = 4 ohm

How do i hook up a B4.250.2 Amp to a home sterio?

You'll need some source of 12V DC power which is not available on your home stereo. A 12V battery or DC power supply will work OK. You'll also need to wire in a toggle switch to "trigger" the amp to turn on. Just put the toggle switch inline with a diode for isolation between the power wire and the "remote" terminal on the amp. Flip the toggle on when you need to use the amp.

The speaker connections and source connections are all shown on page 6 of the manual and would in any case, be the same as if you were installing the amp in a vehicle. Be aware that most home stereo speakers are 8 ohms, whereas speakers and subs designed for vehicles are usually 4 ohm or sometimes even 2 ohm. This will not be a problem. you shoud be able to drive 8 ohm speakers, they just won't be as loud because the amp will not produce it's full power into an 8 ohm load. Plug your RCA's into your home stereo's preamp outputs, or if there are no preamp outputs, use the speaker level inputs on the lower edge of the amp.

"Biwiring' is not an accepted term; I suspect you mean 'parallel.'
There are three different ways to connect loads (that is all your speakers are to the amplifier); 
Assume that the speaker outputs are marked + (plus) and - (minus). 
Series - if you connect a + to a - which is then further connected to another plus + which is then connected to another minus, this is a series connecton and if doing this with speakers, each load (let's assume 4 ohms) is additive; in other words 4 + 4 + 4 = a 12 ohm load. The current flowing through each load is identical.
Parallel - In this case, all the + are connected together and then to the + on the speaker connection. All of the - are connected and then also to the minus of the speaker output. In this case, all of the current is shared and not necessarily equally; the lowest load impedance (this is a complex combination of resistance, inductance and capacitance) will draw the most current. If you have all 4 ohm loads, they will all draw the same amount of current. If you have a mix of loads, the final result will be lower than the lowest of the loads.

Series & parallel circuits 
In your case, if the output is specified as (for example) 4 ohms and you parallel two 8 ohm speakers, it will be a 'matched load' and safe for the amplifier. If you add a third speaker of 4 ohms, you will have a load well under 4 ohms, below the rating of your amp, and you risk damaging the amplifier if the output is not adequately protected against mismatches.
For your situation, you should look at the math on the Wikipedia link and avoid causing your amp to fail.

Hooking up DVC subs

The amp is rated to run a 2 ohm load on each channel. To do this, connect the voice coils of one sub in parallel (tie both "+" on the sub to each other and both "-" on the sub to each other), then connect that sub to one channel of the amp. Repeat this process for the other sub and connect it to the other channel on the amp. The subs will be in stereo and the amp will be outputting it's maximum power.

Amp overheating and adjusting gain and frequency

Overheating in amplifiers is often caused by a speaker load of too low impedance. If your L7 is a dual 4-ohm voice coil, and if you're using the amplifier in bridged mode, that may be causing your problem. Dual 4-ohm subs, with the voice coils wired in parallel, present a 2-ohm load to the amp. Your amp is capable of running a 2 ohm load in 2-channel mode, but not bridged mode. The best fix with your equipment would be to re-wire the sub's voice coils in series, resulting in an 8-ohm load. The amplifier's power output will drop sharply, but you won't have problems with overheating in that configuration. There's a good chance that you'll still be able to get all the volume you want, even with an 8-ohm setup; otherwise you'll probably want to switch to a mono amp designed for a 2-ohm load.

My amplifier

If you're bridging the amplifier you can't use a speaker or speaker combination under 4 ohms. If you have 2 4-ohm subs, or a dual voice coil sub that you're trying to run with the bridged amp, that may be your problem. The screws aren't designed to come out of the holes; they're supposed to just loosen or tighten the terminals. A loose wire in a terminal won't cause a protect light on the amplifier unless the wire is shorting to another terminal or to the case of the amp.
