When you see the on off screen it means turn off you laptop by the switch wait about a second and then turn it back on by the switch. Then it will come on. Your cmos battery is dead. That is the little battery inside your computer that controls the date and settings memory

Hi

Sounds like your boot up files are corrupt so it cant read any further then the screen.

you need the windows start up disc to match the windows installed on your laptop/pc

load it and when it asks you to install or repair select repair and follow the prompts to reinstatement the boot up files or master boot record MBR

Every time I reboot my pc I get the checksum error, all my defaults are loaded and also cant get to the setup

During the boot process you will see on the screen a certain key to press to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
You will also need to set the time and date
click start control panel date and time you can make your adjustments to the date and time from there also right click on the date and time on the bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) you should see Adjust date and time tab
hope this helps you

Checksum error, boot failure on start up..wont continue..some beeping sound

make sure the compters ram modules and Cmos are securely seated with no dust in the sockets If you have reset the CMOS memory you need to go into the BIOS setup screen and reconfigure the BIOS. To do that you need to press a key while the computer is booting. Usually F2 but can be other keys. It should tell you on the bottom of the first screen which key to press to enter BIOS setup.
If you don't know the settings the should be one for optimal defaults - use that one. You will also need to reset the time and date.
click start control panel date and time you can make your adjustments to the date and time from there also right click on the date and time on the bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) you should see Adjust date and time tab
Save, Exit and re-boot and everything should then work.
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press delete to enter setup

My pc keeps on restarting after loading the xp screen

Disconnect any new devices you may have recently added and boot the PC.

As its booting press the F8 key several times, this should bring up several boot options. Choose "Safe Mode" .

This will bring up windows in a stripped down form, once complete click on start - all programmes - accessories - system tools - system restore (This is for XP, vista and win7 are a little different)

Restore to a date prior to when all the problems started.

Locked screen

emove the CMOS battery, POP will be vanished right away. But after that, you have to enter BIOS to set the time/date, otherwise laptop won't boot.
